Hey All,
I recently purchased another Celica and unlike my 94 ST, this 99 GT has remote locks (Thank God!). The fob works fine for the locks and it is the stock security system with the stock remote, however the aux button that usually is a power trunk release doesn't seem to work. The button is worn a bit so I assume the previous owner used it for something, but I don't notice it doing anything. The power antenna on this vehicle does not work either. Could this lead to the hatch not lifting? I vaguely remember reading something that said that the solenoid to pop the hatch could use the power from the antenna.

As a complete and utter novice to wiring and electrical tasks, I was wondering what I should be checking/fixing so that I can get the fob to open my hatch. Could it be something as simple as a fuse, or is it more involved?

Power antenna failure is a common issue with these cars and I doubt if it's related at all. Is your keyless entry system the OEM Toyota system? Our Celicas did not come equipped with a keyless hatch entry.

It is the OEM system. I thought that the bottom button on the fob was for the hatch? Is it just a blank button that doesn't do anything?

Dan is right; our key fobs don't come with a keyless hatch release. The extra button is for programming the key fob to another car that has an RS3000/3200 alarm system; basically, one key fob if you have two Toyotas from the '96 - '01 model years.

See, just buy another Toyota from 96-01 and then you can use the button.

My 99 oem fob has three buttons...
First top button = red = unlocks driver door and arms system.
Second middle button = black = unlocks both doors.
Third bottom button = green = turns on the lights.

Could you post pictures of that? It sounds like the newer Celica/Corolla keyfob but the colors are throwing me off.

Actually my 99 GT fob has TDS on the side... but came on the Celica as new installed. My other 98 Camry came with the same remote as well.
