Well seeing as we're stuck together by fate, or something like that, I suppose I should embrace it and what not. So I thought to myself, "Hey, maybe if you did stuff to the Celica to make it your own you'd like it more." I then gave myself a high-five for such a good idea. All in all I really like the car aside from the slowness, then I thought to myself again, "Hey, the only time you have to use speed is pulling out into traffic or passing some moron and the Celica is adequate in that regard." Another high-five occurred. Then the deal sealer, "Hey moron you couldn't buy another car, not even another Celica, worth a damn for what you'd be giving up your car for." You guessed it, a...punch to the face. Nah, just kidding there was definitely another high-five. So anyhow, the whole purpose of this thread is to keep me and the Celica on positive terms and it's also to help motivate me to do the things that I want to do. I have a bunch of cheap ideas that in all should be under $100, and should help in making the car more to my liking. Less on that now, and more boring history. So I bought the Celica almost two years ago, and nothing has really happened. The end. Glad that's over, now for fun things. Of course there're the obligatory pictures.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So there ya go, I'm even so hardcore I left my plate tag exposed for the world to see. Anyhow a little more about it. It's the ST 5-speed and is fully loaded as they could be. Power windows and locks, A/C, power moonroof, rear wiper, and even has the optional 14" alloys. I'm curious as to how rare the 14" alloys are, as I've yet to see another set as most ST's have steelies or have aftermarket wheels by now. As far as the car goes it's pretty much stock. The only thing aftermarket is that it's lowered on Tein coil springs and KYB struts, and the radio was replaced as well. Mechanically the car is sorted and everything is already taken care of for the next 50,000+ miles, I suppose that's a good kind of boring though. There is one thing I've done to make the car unique, I painted the plastic trim pieces in metallic black: Door handle cups, air vent trim, door switch panels, center console, and gauge surround. I think it's a classy and subtle touch, I like that it could pass for OEM. ![]() Can see it really well on the air vent trim and door panel switch. You can stop oogling my legs now. I also added some awesome decals: ![]() ![]() Then at one point I spent a couple of days busting my ass waxing it. ![]() So that was fun, of course the clear is still peeling. Thanks a lot previous owners' neglect, Alabama heat, AND THE FREAKING COLOUR RED. Oh, and one last thing... I have something that I imagine very few of you people do... So very rare... ![]() That's right, the original key! The key's teeth are so smooth and rounded now, yet it still works. Of course I keep it in a safe place and use a copy key now. So now that all of that is out of the way, time for possible future modifications: QUOTE Figure out something to do with the clear peel... Tint the taillights with window tint for a deep glossy look, along with painting the tag bezel black Find 5GC power mirrors and paint them black along with door handles, if the above happens True cold air intake for sucking sound and marginal, if any, gains Replace the secondary cat with a glass-pack and the muffler with a Magnaflow XL chambered muffler for marginal gains and hopefully not too bad of a sound Possibly buy JDM tails and "American-ize" them, therefore making them legal by meeting U.S. side-marker requirements. Remove spoiler and properly fill and paint Remove front side-markers and properly fill and paint. Find premium audio door panels Redo sun visors Repaint wheels Redo audio LED interior lighting Fog lights Lit key-ring Replace front Toyota badge with Celica dragon emblem Some of those are iffy, but most I'd like to do in the nearby future. If I happen to think of anything else I'll throw it into here. So anyhow I promise to stop complaining, or at the least cut it out significantly. After extensive searching since April, and especially here recently, the grass is only greener on the other side due to the other piece of shìt cars fertilizing the soil. Besides, all the other forums suck in comparison and I really don't want to go through the trouble of reestablishing myself. It'll take awhile getting used to looking in the driver mirror and not seeing a giant antenna flapping in the wind.

That's ok, I'm thinking about giving up and buying some luxury car... Getting into the car the other day somehow I pulled something in my rib cage, I thought I was going to have to call for help it hurt so bad. Then when you're inside the ride is harsh and cramped, nobody wants to ride in it and I can't honestly blame them... Can't find any damn seats to alleviate the issue, so fùck it...
I know, I know, the complaining thing... It's just frustrating when NO ONE wants to go with you in your car, and you have to hurt yourself in order to drive it... If I could find some seats that'd help, but God forbid something like that happens... Still doesn't solve the problem where you're right next to each other, which depending on the gender of the passenger that can be bearable. I can't think of anything at the moment I'd want instead anyway though, for some reason luxury sports coupes with manual transmissions are few and far between... You've got a good looking car. I've got a 96 st myself but its a base model. Your comment about it being uncomfortable made me laugh. A co-worker of mine complains about mine every time he gets in it. I would love to find a reasonably priced gt but have not been able to do so. I can't get rid of mine because it just too darn dependable. Thanks for the tip about the golf/s2000 antenna. I need to replace mine as well.

I can't get rid of mine because it just too darn dependable. Thanks for the tip about the golf/s2000 antenna. I need to replace mine as well. Thanks. Yeah, outside of that I genuinely like the car. Really it's due to the poor excuses for roads that we have around here, most are terrible even in a stock sedan much less a lowered sports coupe. I'm just at the point where I don't care about saving fuel, and rather be comfortable seeing as my problems appear to be getting worse... IF SOMEBODY would sell me leather seats, it'd help tremendously. I'm only 5'10" and of somewhat broad stature, I don't see how the people over 6'2" deal with it. Especially the guy(reason my seat is trashed) that had it before me was 6'6" and 350 pounds. I don't really see the point of the GT unless you're going to engine swap it immediately, it isn't really much faster and the mpg takes a nose dive. On the antenna you will need an adapter one way or another, rather it's the original or aftermarket. I just ended up wiring the plug from the antenna I had into the new base, so I didn't need the adapter. You still looking for a gt box? Found one on the Florida East coast for 2500 I was considering finding one with a bad engine or trans for swapping. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

U need a lancer evo After my 3000GT I swore off Mitsubishi. I still say Mitsubishi is Japan's way of getting back at us for WWII, Mitsubishi did make the Zero planes after all... Bogus conspiracy theories aside... SEDAN, eww... I may feel and look old, but there's no reason why my car should confirm it. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Mine were blown out by a 6'6" 350 pound giant. Even after swapping the passenger foam and covers over to the driver side it's still terrible. Still doesn't solve the problem of my left leg and arm being wedged into the door panel, my right leg being wedged into the center dash, and my right arm extending over the edge of the center console. I'm too damn broad for the car, yes I'm working on losing some weight now. Even then it's really a matter of bone structure, it's why I have to buy my suits in separate pieces. Apparently a 40 in pants with a 54 jacket isn't normal. That's right, even being overweight I have the "V" shape.

Odd it has the leather wrapped wheel and wood trim kit, but cloth seats.
Anyhow, I don't know what to do anymore. Can't find any seats to try and make the car bearable, I've been searching for ages now and nothing... I would put it back on stock suspension, but then it'll drive like ass and ruin the car... -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

You should be ashamed to have a build thread with a single modification done to the car.

Go to an upholstery shop and get your seats done, it might be more than used ones, but at least you will have it soon and it will be NEW. You'll for sure know you'll be the first one to have sex on them. -------------------- |

Honestly getting into and out of the my new Celica I think will be my least favorite thing about it. I'm only 5'8", so I'm comfortable when seated, but getting in and out is already a pain with the injuries I have. And I have nothing too serious! The Celica is a fairly low slung coupe, if you have to move on for the reason of comfort, I understand that completely.

The Celica is a fairly low slung coupe, if you have to move on for the reason of comfort, I understand that completely. It's a damned if I do, damned if I don't situation... Getting in is easier than getting out, but it's really just the comfort once driving that's bothersome. Yes it's been lowered, but it wouldn't be so bad if the seats were better. Then again if the roads weren't absolute garbage it wouldn't really matter... I don't know if there's anything I'll totally be comfortable in anyway, even riding in my brother's fully loaded Maxima I'm not entirely comfortable. I've ridden in newer cars as well, what's sad is some of them stock and only a few years old were worse than the Celica... I want to get one with lower miles and abs if I get another. Preferably an 99 Meh, don't need ABS. No point in paying the price for a '99 when it's no different from a '96 to '98 model either... Lower miles is nice and all, but for what people want for a lower miles and later year car, the options for better cars becomes available. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed
