For Christmas, I would like to get my daughter a new head unit and all new speakers....while trying not to break the bank.
Amazon is my best source at the moment, so I wonder if any of you have researched replacing the speakers in the 8 speaker system and could steer me in the right direction? I am looking for a pair of 1" tweeters, a pair of 4" speakers, a pair of 6.5" speakers for the back and "something" to replace the pair of 8" speakers in the door. This is the head unit that she likes: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0091UW7F...d=ATVPDKIKX0DER although I don't know if it's any good. Also do I need any harnesses or anything? (I know nothing about car audio) Any help would be GREATLY appreciated....thanks! Oh and also, she would like some sort of amp and subwoofer w/box in the trunk (her dad is going to get it for her) but I don't know what to look for there either (nor does he). Thanks again! |

1 thread below. You can see my speakers. That stereo looks like a2012 model. Some were not compatible with ios6 iphone. Make sure it is. Otherwise you need to do a firmware upgrade.
Im going 8 inch sub on the doors. My vert trunk space is priceless. You will need a harness for toyota. The sicky section has a thread about replacing the stereo -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... If you PM me and I dont respond, dont fret or cry. Im alive, better post your questions in the thread below, maybe I log back in 2grfe Swapped... Why I chose the 2GR, before you ask read here... That's one I'm looking at getting, from everything I can find it's supposed to be a really good unit for the money. The problem you have is that you have the 8-speaker system, so that complicates matters a little. You'll have to rerun the wiring and bypass the factory amplifier for the new speakers. What I'd suggest is getting a component set for the tweeters and 4" speakers, coaxial 6.5" speakers for the rear, and then getting shallow mount 8" sub-woofers for the bottom door panels. Then you wouldn't need a box in the back. You even might be able to find a small enough amplifier to sit in place of the factory amplifier for powering the 8" subs. On that particular head-unit run power to the component set and coaxial speakers from the head-unit itself, then can use the rear/sub RCA outputs to go to the amp and then out to the 8" subs.

Im going 8 inch sub on the doors. My vert trunk space is priceless. You will need a harness for toyota. The sicky section has a thread about replacing the stereo I see you're using RF speakers, which is what I was looking at thru Amazon, but there are different ones....and I know nothing about wattage, etc. of car audio. Do you happen to have the part #'s for the speakers and harness that you chose? I will check into the iPhone compatibility of that stereo, as well. I think she is on iOS7 on her iPhone now. I agree with needing the trunk space....do the 8" subs in the door produce a rattle when they hit? That's one I'm looking at getting, from everything I can find it's supposed to be a really good unit for the money. The problem you have is that you have the 8-speaker system, so that complicates matters a little. You'll have to rerun the wiring and bypass the factory amplifier for the new speakers. What size amp would I need, do you think? And this is a dumb question....but would having the 8" subs inside the car produce the "bump" that teenagers are after? Waiting...lol. Especially interested in the route you go with the subs.... |

If you're wanting to mount the amp where the OEM amp is, you'll need one similar in size to it. njccmd2002 could probably give you some specs on it, I have the plain Jane 4-speaker system so I couldn't tell you. As far as wattage goes just get something with a RMS equal to or very close to the sub's combined RMS rating. The door subs should provide more than enough bass that's needed for safe driving.
