Thought some of you guys here might be interested in this. I have a red leather steering wheel with red stitching from a Japan-only S-Edition MR2 Spyder. It's in fairly decent shape, but ideally the red leather could use a re-dye. Red dye kits are available on Amazon for cheap if interested. You'll need a 7th gen Celica/Rav4/MR2 airbag to work with this. Feel free to PM or email me at amcmoe @ gmail.com with a reasonable offer. $30 is not a reasonable offer. Send me an email and I can send you high-resolution pictures since I see Photobucket reduced their resolution limit...

fairly decent shape? that red leather is gone. There's no dyeing that, it's completely cracked. You would need to get the whole thing reupholstered since the red is stitched to the black.

I'm sorry but where do you see cracks? The red is scuffed, no cracking at all. You sand it with in varying grits and re-dye it. GTFU of my thread unless you know what you're talking about... If it was cracked I would have said that.

lol...I do know what I'm talking about because I've dealt with leather before.
Why would you ever sand it down either? That just wears away the material even more.
The only time you re-dye leather is when it is faded, not when it's cracking.
Once leather is cracked, scuffed, ripped, torn or whatever, it's basically done. At that point you pretty much have to get it reupholstered if you want it to look new again.

and it's GTFO, not GTFU....

You sand it down to smooth it back out. You vary the grit just like you would with wood, to get it smooth again. When it's scuffed and the color is no longer matching the surrounding un-scuffed leather, it needs re-dyed to match.

http://www.leatherique.com/do_it_your_self...ye_leather.html There's a good article on the process.

Of course reupholstering it would make it like new again, but I doubt anyone buying a used steering wheel would bother with that expense. You can get these for just under $500 new on eBay, so it's not worth the cost to reupholster. A cheap kit to make it look presentable again would be the cheap way to have a pretty hard to come by wheel.

And yes, I'm aware it's GTFO - I was typing from my cell phone at the time and had a typo, my apologies.

Yep, same wheel. This specific one was removed from a red 2005 S-Edition MR2 Spyder that was recently brought over from Japan.
