anyone have specs on the stock upgraded sound system, 6 or 8 speakers? and the double dinn cd player thats all one piece (not like the other one thats half/half)

the cd player seems to read the cd for a minute and then spit it back out but everything else works, anyone know what this might be?

also with this upgrade is it harder to put a new head unit in? is there afactory amp?

thanks guys smile.gif

I dunno but I took out the stock sterio and my CD player worked fine, so if you need it tell me.

It was a major drag putting in my aftermarket headunit but thats because I spliced into the stock harness, but they sell the adapters at stores(wish I would have gotten one). And the fatory amp should be in the center console/dash.

thats the thing I dont think that headunit would work with the 8 speakers.

basically I guess since I dont think this head unit is gonan work (although everythign but the cd player works which pisses me off)

I need to know my options with the 8 speaker system.

I really dont wanna have 2 dead spots on my car where the mids go but I guess that might be the case, a shame too to have that ugly little circle there with nothing coming out of it smile.gif

I have the stock 8 speaker system and had my pioneer head unit put in and it works fine. Best buy installed it for me and just put in a little cubby hole thing under the pioneer. (being that its a single-din)
I'm 99% sure that there is a stock amp. Otherwise it wouldn't seem to work. All the speakers are still stock and going strong even after 8 years of whatever abuse and my listening pleasure for 2 years with the pioneer. They've held up great.

heh, a cd cleaner made cds work in it, but for some reason when playing cds no sound comes ouf of the left woofer, or left rear. these two speakers work fine in tape player and radio.

so im basically gonna try and find a stock head unit someone will give/sell me for cheap. im broke as a joke but i atleast want cd capability while i save for a better sound upgrade

8- Speaker System Headunit Installation, Part 1

Ok, first what you should do is read that thread that i linked, and read my last post all the way at the bottom...This is why the search feature on this website is extremely important, and to anyone who doubts me....keep reading.

By not using it to research such issues, you could end up spending way to much money on a solution, like buying an unneccesary amp for the other speakers or paying for somebody else to look at it like i almost did. Also, do a search for "Metra harness" in the Interior forum and it will give you at least 4 other topics that i have provided the same exact information in to other people in your situation. But with that said, you should have no other problems, and let me know if you do.

EDIT- The same stock 2-din CD player that you have now can be found in vehicles like the MKIV supra or celica, or you could just buy a much better and reliable aftermarket unit without the chance of the CD function quitting on you again. My CD mode stopped working as well, and i dont regret buying a great piece of equipment instead of guessing with a used one. wink.gif

I read all about the metra harness and all the posts you have made, the thing is in the 2-3 month future I plan on getting 6.5 inch components , 4 inch 2 ways, and 6.5 incvh 3 ways for the rear. Along with subs.

Im trying to spend as little money as possibile right now just to have CD capability while I drive (without using one of those gay car adaptbers tongue.gif)

I really think that you should try using a really good headunit with the Metra harness, then adding subs of your choice. You would be floored at how good those speakers sound with the stock amps driving them through an expensive headunit. wink.gif Unless of course you blew a speaker or something...

Right now i have a 9 speaker setup with all 8 stock speakers powered by the stock amps using the Metra harness, and a 10" Polk MOMO sub recieving 300 watts RMS bridged from a Blaupunkt amp under my passenger seat. It sounds incredible, and if you want even more drastic results in the bass department, i would suggest at least 2 10's or even 12's getting at no less than 300 watts each.

Moral of the story- you arent going to notice hardly any difference between stock speakers and components unless you feed sick ammounts of power to them, which really isnt neccesary based on how well the stock ones respond to high output stereos. smile.gif

i ordered the metra harness yestarday smile.gif

but for the record the stock headunit and an aftermarket head unit will sound exactly the same if you integrate the 2 stock amps, all of the speakers will be running off of factory power and not the head unit smile.gif

also my 8 inch woofers are blown so I think I am gonna put in my old 6.5's for now untill I can afford better replacements

thanks for the help smile.gif
