Took the car out for a wash, found out my garage is flooding. Power went out temporarily to boot and i ordered clutch master and slave cylinders for install soon. Now i just need a dry day in Wisconsin... or dry garage.

While I had my block jacked up I had a good nosey underneath and the air intske itself seems small and poorly placed plus I dont see the need for two silencing chambers, ill be ripping it out putting a cold air hose to the front bumper and I quite loke the look of the purpose built heat shieldfilter housing on here. Mines a 2.0 gt 3s-ge sw20 according to the diagrams and layout in the toyota engine manual that I think is on one of the stickies on here. Ive seen a few plastidiped cars around and if its done well it looks good. Plus I have quite a lot of patience so can happily take my time and get it right. If I could give any advice it would be to get the official toyota engine manual and follow what it says there taking bits from the how toos on here as they are always informative and help out a lot. Its harder for me to follow since im in the north of the uk so the lingo is off and most things are backwards. Id also say change all belts regardless of how new they look. I have the same issue with paint near the head lights. Dizzy and rotor need doing at some point then ill be advancing the timing to about 17º as opposed to the 10º from the factory.

I changed my rotors and semi-metallic pads out with a set of rotors I got from ILoveMySilly97 and ceramic pads.
Even with the freshly turned rotors vs the old glazed ones, the ceramics have much LESS stopping power than my old semi metallic pads. Also, the rotor appears to have worn more than the pads. After 20k miles there is almost no sign of wear on the pads. But the darn metallics squeal and create a LOT of brake dust. I guess the ceramics will be my street set and the metallic pads & rotors will be my future track set. |

had my first proper drive since my water pump imploded and the car spent three weeks on stands while I did my first ever big job on a car by changing the water pump and timing belt. it was an absolute labour of love only being able to do an hour here or there and as soon as she started and i checked that the timing was right i could feel the biggest smile on my face and the experience has reinforced how i feel about these cars completely. now looking to my next job to do which is get rid of most of the induction system and fit a cold air intake, then its a short shifter, then poly bushes all around possibly rear sway bar. all the while correcting the stuff the moron who had her before me made a crap job of. oh then brakes, maybe a power deck spacer, and reupholster and heated seats. then in the summer i think im gona have a go at plastidiping her black. this is gona cost me a fortune. oh well. Welcome to working on cars! I remember back when it was fun lol. Now I do it for a living and not so much fun for myself besides upgrading stuff. Ha. i'm already broke because kids. now its a case of being really broke. love doing it though and i dont plan on making it my profession, its purely a pleasure thing. have done little bits and pieces before this car like changeing brakes and the odd end link but this has been a big one. i noticed when i got the cam belt off the crank was out by a couple of teeth by the look of it. but i lined it up properly and im not sure if its me or not but the car seems a lot more responsive on the throttle and the acceleration and even the idle seems smoother. i know in the states the abs sensors from a camry will fit but i was wondering if there are any uk equivalents that are also compatible as shelling out £100 plus per sensor for new is something id only like to do if absolutely necessary.

Finally got around to replacing both seized brake cables. Question, is there an easy way to properly adjust the parking brake so that it actually grabs the first time? I had it set well and by the time I got home, it seemed to have needed adjustment again. What I did was, with the parking brake pulled, spin the adjuster until it grabbed. Then I spun the nut down a bit on the handle to reduce the height of the pull... But it's still not working correctly. Any suggestions?

It sounds like something is loose, I adjusted mine years ago and it hasnt changed. I just use the adjusment nut in the center console |

received my MR2 DS caliper from autozone. Got free 3-5 day ground shipping, but FedEx overnighted it instead, no complaints here though!

today I got out the hose and a bucket with my little scrubby sponge and gave her a hand bath.
even with the peeled clearcoat on the hood, and little dings the rest of it is still nice and shiny. What do you guys use for cleaning the stock alloy wheels? I used this armorall wheel cleaner, it was ok but there's still quite a bit it wouldn't do even when I hand scrubbed the wheels. the day before I installed my Ceramic brake pads I got from Rockauto for $17. when they got here they were in a NAPA box and its the set they sell for $70 ![]() maybe does not stop quite as fast but less dust on the wheels. -------------------- Bust a Deal; Face the Wheel.

I went to the car washers and bought some solution. Put it in a small container and spray, wait a bit, then sprinkle.

Purple power or any powerful degreaser. If its pretty bad, I spray it on the wheels and drive to the car wash and spray some more on once I get there and just blast them with the pressure washer. They make somewhat hard bristle brushes for just wheels as well found at any parts store. If its still standing SOS pad, and if that doesnt do it, time to sand and paint lol.
