Any short ram will make less power than an OEM unit, you just get noise. The only way to maintain, and possibly get marginal gains, is with a true cold air intake that places the filter in the fender-well. The 90-93 Accord CAI can be easily modified to do just such.

False, any SRI will improve on HP. the stock airbox is so restrictive. Adding a SRI with a good filter will improve on HP and engine noise.

^false.....

Replace the OEM tube between TB and box with a smooth one. K&N drop in filter and remove the resonator boxes inside the wheel well is probably the best solution you can go for.

So in a sense, get an SRI and build a box to replace the stock air box so it will still draw cold air from the stock location. Am i correct?

Sure, but why do the extra work when you can leverage the OEM box and a K&N drop in panel filter?

Sucking in warm air improves horsepower, of course... rolleyes.gif The stock air box is more than enough for the measly 1.8L of displacement, and it's not like it's a maze of piping from there to the throttle body either.

Tape the cracks with gorilla tape and drop in a k&n filter. If you really want a Sri, just get a cheap eBay one and buy an name brand filter. Save some money. Sri roars while the cai purrs. Lol. I know because I've had both. My fav is cai because I like how you can hear the cai sucking in air at idle and when driving in the cockpit.

If you do the CAI filter placement right you'll get air shoved into it from the front bumper opening. If anything will give an improvement it'd be a setup like that.

+1, Ram air is probably the only better performance than stock. Lol

As said above sri's do nothing that the stock air box doesn't already do, just do what the box said, you'll be fine or you can just leave it alone and do something else like put a turbo on that n/a motor.

I have to agree... In my experience, a CAI and SRI are both a waste of 100+ dollars. and IMO unless you can get a used intake for less than 50$ don't waste your money. If you really want to make a difference, leave the car bone stock, work hard for about a year and save your money, then do a fully built N/A setup, turbo, or supercharged.

CAI and SRI on a 7afe and 5sfe only produces engine noise, not power. If you want the noise, go ahead and do it. Don't do it thinking there will be a considerable gain.

I don't see how the stock airbox is restrictive. 2-2.25" pipe is more than enough for our 49.5mm ID throttle body.

For looks, sounds, and butt dyno perfomance. SRI > CAI > stocker...

Any tubing with a smooth inside will have better air flow than stock rippled tubing, dat turbulence. SRI will suck in hot air, If you made a hot air shield box, or mod your stocker box to work with the SRI. That would be your best option. Cold air intakes are just that. And whats the point of getting a car to mod if your going to leave the stock air box in?? midaswell leave your wheels stock and your muffler stock too because that's how Toyota designed it!!
