Well, a rainy day in this city for a gloomy return of my dead baby. The $400 towing fee was a nice touch to bring my car home.

The garage that I had my car towed to last week did an initial inspection, just said cylinder 4 was dead. I don't think they looked into the turbo as I already told them it had a leak, which may have been the ultimate failing point causing the oil to blow into my engine, thus seizing the cylinder.

The good news, the unripened bananas that I had left in my car last week are perfectly ripened, and my coffee thermos wasn't mouldy either.

I've got a few options lined up pending some transitions at work. If I get chosen for a certain position out east, then there's no point in me fixing the car. I'll put the car up for sale. What are your thoughts on the price for a GT-4 with a dead engine? My initial thoughts were to put up a feeler price of $3~4k.

Again, this is my first car I've ever owned, has been the car I've wanted as a kid, so it does hold that special spot in my heart enough that I want to hold onto it forever and fix it up. Conversely, it still needs a bit of TLC if fixed up. Flex-pipe on the exhaust needs fixing and the left CV outboard boot has been ripped for a while. It'll probably cost me about $4k for a new engine and installation, so after spending so much this past January to get the transmission fixed, I'll be spending well over what I paid for the car.

Needless to say, this car will be a bittersweet lawn ornament for the time being. So sad.

Pegs - Bought the car in Calgary from a Mexican fellow. Doubtful he imported it himself, but unsure whether he was the first owner since it landed in Canada.

I say look into what it would cost to buy another car for cheap reliable transportation ( a Toyota of course)
and then you can fix the GT4 at your leisure instead of depending on it for a DD.
They are rare and hard to find, you may never get a chance to get another one.

If you don't have any mechanical aptitude you're probably better off selling it off and getting what you can out of it. If that's not the case you should be able to rebuild the engine, if for some reason the block can't be reused you could look into doing a 5S/3S hybrid to save some money and gain some cubes while you're at it.

Do something crazy. Put a 1mz in it and a big turbo. Build it better than it was!

It'd be like a lighter and smaller 3000GT VR4, but reliable. laugh.gif

^Exactly. Sadly for me the parking brake in the Firebird is suspiciously clutch shaped and positioned. tongue.gif

If I can ever commit to keeping it I'll yank out the TH350 for a T5/T56 and that'll solve my biggest issue with it. 3-speed automatics aren't very fun or efficient.

Today, I will probably go to Pull-A-Part to look for front-end parts.

Yesterday, I spent most of the day working on the twins. First, I removed the leather front seats from Suzuka (the old car) and removed the cloth fronts from Umi (the new car) and spent some time cleaning them off before swapping them. Another thing I wanted to get from the old car was the Toyota VIP RS3000 security system - not so much for it's anti-theft abilities (which are easily outdone by a cheapo aftermarket unit) but because I'm lazy and like pressing a button to lock/unlock the doors. Also, I wanted something that would be a simple plug and play system - I do not want to splice or wire anything dealing with the ignition.

So...

...I spent an hour tracing and pulling the RS3000 wiring harness, glass breakage sensor, and ECU out of Suzu then spent the next 30 minutes re-installing everything except the Piezo chirper into Umi. After that, put the leather seats into Umi and the cloth ones into Suzu however I'm thinking of selling the entire tan cloth set.

After that, I got to work removing the busted fender on Suzuka (which also required removing the passenger side skirt) so I could get a better look at the front-end damage from the accident.

The good news looks like other than a new bumper, fender, headlight support wing, and windshield washer bottle there front end damage is limited to banging the two bent areas back into shape which is great - the frame itself doesn't look tweaked/damage at all!

And that's how the girls sat at the end of the day. Will update more as I tinker in the coming months.

Neither. laugh.gif

The one with the salvage title (Suzuka) would be more likely to end up with a V6 since I have to be OBD-II compliant. But that's jumping the shark...gotta get her back on the road before planning new projects. smile.gif

I can't remember, but aren't they both auto GT's? Though I guess having both you can swap one with no time constraints and what not then sell the other once the swap is over.
