Gearbox rebuilding, dropped of at local toyota with my own toyota parts that I ordered - I could get them way cheaper.

Thanks guys.
I have 5 sets of riser blocks, I think I can muster up a spoiler , even tho I am diggin' the spoirlerless look, my other Celica has one, maybe a little change for now. It has the holes pre-drilled tho, so it will be an 1 hour of a job to put one, it definitely looks empty in the back when the car is not lowered.

Have you tried to see what the cause is yet? Kind of weird it'd start knocking out of nowhere. Might able to get away with using 20W-50 and granny shifting until you can find another engine.

Pretty sure it's a rod knock. I'm no engine expert so I had my girlfriend's dad have a look at it and he's pretty sure that's what it is.

Hard to tell from the video but it sounds more like valve-train noise, generally rod knock is a low thumping sound and that's more metallic and high pitched.
Is the noise constant or only when warmed up? Might try taking a really long screwdriver, or something similar, to try and isolate the location of the noise. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Could be a stuck/sticking lifter, that or maybe a return spring is weak. It's really hard to tell without being there in person. Silly question but is the oil level and condition good? I would say check the oil pressure if at all possible.
Might look into finding another head to swap over during a free weekend. You might try an engine flush or some other magic in a bottle for valve-trains first, but I wouldn't put too much hope into it. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed
