Yes I know they guy... he's my brother and I know what he has done to the car. I doubt it could be the drivers because they were both automatics. It's got to be engine problems...

I think you should just get over it and forget it. It's not you, your car or your engine, or horsepower or anything like that. With such small numbers on both sides, it's all about power delivery... numbers don't mean all that much. I personally am not too surprised... although being auto hurts you more than him. Toyota auto trannies are geared really crappily.

As for Civic EX's... they have SOHC Vtec motors. 127hp 110 something ft lbs of torque.

its def the V-tec in hondas.. which alows then to pull for longer, the thing is we get our power so quick .. the ex doesnt get it until v-tec an can also hold out longer. which ment by the time your car is shifting to sencond he is still pulling in first.. I beat a ex in my st.. i have 5 speed an know how to drive, also the ex was auto.. but it all depends on every thing. he also had abody kit, which made his car heavier too..

I can tell ya why, you guys have sports car shells with economy engines biggrin.gif  haha jk

no your right. Our cars were not ment to go fast. Especially autos with limited 4 gears-no redline in any case and no variable-valve timming.
the SOHC Ex's dyno at like 125 to the whells after intake, header and exhaust, Thats a substantial increase than a GT at like 105hp at wheels with intake, exhaust, pulleys wires and plugs. They dont respond well without forced induction or a swap.**shrugs** but they look cool.Like Kwanza said your motors fine the car just lacks in critical areas.

HELL YEAH!! Your gears are so much longer because thers only 4. I have a 97 GT (auto) with everydamn thing you can do to it minus boost and cams and Im still slow as hell.. **"Somethings wrong with your motor"** haha-NO. 5SFE are just well... non-prformance oriented.

Hmmm, my redline is 6400 rpm in my GT Auto and with th shift kit and new torque converter, I'd beat any manual GT with h/i/e...then again you don't ahve any drivetrain upgrades so you're going to be at a loss. Those VTECs man, after 4k rpm just kill. I've only lost to one non-forced-induction car in my Celi and that was an EX but before I had drivetrain upgrades. (I also don't race too many people in the Celica)

But like uppitycracker said, our cars aren't meant to go fast man. Get somethin neat like a blue subaru...biggrin.gif

What I don't get is why Toyota would make such a HOT car without any intention of it being performance oriented in any way... besides the torque I guess...

Because they want you to spend more money on a Supra or MR2.
