CelicaDeath, just because you didn't understand at first what I was saying, doesn't mean it's not true.

As you pointed out (after looking it up I assume), Subs with underpowered amps are much more likely to be damaged when the gain knob is cranked. Without all the technical stuff added in, it goes to this:

If you underpower a sub, it will more likely be damaged than it would be if you have too much power going to a sub.

Subs are damaged more by too little power, than by too much. I stand by that statement, and your own second post proves me right- it's not a huge stretch

WHY will a sub be more damaged when underpowered then too much power?????

You still haven't answered that question. And no I didn't look it up, its common sense.

okay, this is where im confused again.

i checked the Kicker website and read through the manual for making boxes and such. Before the boxes part they said the speakers take 450RMS and something like 800max(different from their boxes)

so i was thinking around 400, but then in the boxes area it went on to comment on 325 for two kinds(one of which being a ported with fake seal-like wall) and the other being 300...

I already have my foot in the door ready to buy the Audiobahn amp with 200X2 or 800X1...

Also, what is MDF?

ummm, riight.

dont try to do that much on those 8s. My manager had four 8SL7s on 2000 watt amp, i believe its 2 channel so 2 subs off a channel, and blew 3 of them. find an amp that runs 400 RMS and wire them to match the amp.

& overpowering at continous (RMS) is just as bad as overpowering at MAX.

Uhm, you explained why less power is worse yourself in the second post you made-

It's simply that you're more likely to damage the sub when you're using an underpowered amp.

Install error kills subs, kids crank the gain knob with both underpowering and overpowering subs. But when gains set right, more power is worse.

I would connect the two coils in parallel for a 2 ohm load. Look for an amp capable of 400 watts rms into 2 ohms. Solobarics don't sound their best untill they get driven hard.

You can only achieve a 4ohm load, or a 1ohm load with 2 Dual 4ohm subs.

Solo's never sound good no matter how much power you give them biggrin.gif , just spl....

"Driven hard" by that you mean give them full rms or more power I hope.

I was refering to each sub being wired to 2 ohm. Not the total of both.

Yes there are better SQ subs out there. I was refering to the fact that solos can sound pretty good (for an spl sub)in the right box. While in the wrong box they are really loud but really boomy.

MDF is medium density fiberboard. Available at lowes and home depot and such. Around $20 a sheet.

The SL7s are good all-around subs for their money. If you have the right set-up they'll hit clean and crisp.

I have a KX600.1 to each of mine and i've had plenty of compliments on how clean they hit, but that is also w/ the amp turned down and on vocal on my cd player. When their cranked you cant hear anything else other than bass lol. But even turned half way up they have a clean hit. Just make sure you buy some dynamat while your at it.

Wait a sec, I didn't say L7's are bad, they just have moderate at BEST sq.

It's hard to get louder than an L7 for the same amount of money. L7's are loud, but don't buy them for a SQ install........
