Get a Heavy duty pressure plate mac. You should be able to get +50 % biting power or so from just a pressure plate upgrade without feeling too much more springyness in your clutch pedal. Then if you want to avoid slipping get a different clutch disc... I don't like the oem disc it wears too easily. That's probably only if you drive you car hard, if you drive like a granny it won't be a problem. You will need a new throw-out bearing too. That will usually come with your clutch kit. I'd also get some work done to your flywheel - you will have access to it during the clutch upgrade so nows the time. Just get the face machined to get rid of any leftover clutch disc material or you could get it lightened & machined which is what I have recently done (very happy with it).

I got a heavy duty pressure plate, ceramic puck disc & lightened/balanced flywheel last clutch upgrade & am heaps happy with it. The flywheel made a huge difference to the engine response.

macavely i think you should go for the stock clutch(kit).IF you are not planning to do any serious upgrades for the moment stay with that, you will love the driving cuz its going to be smooth and easy but if you need a change you should go a step forward and go for wild pressure plate.
I recently upgrade my clutch with ACT Xtreme organic clutch and the car kicks a LOT man:)

Mac, may I ask how much that kit ran you, and how much the install is going to be. Ive let mine go too long and Im afraid Im going to get caught soon in traffic with no clutch at all.

i'm not sure i never pay normal prices for installs when i don't do them myself.. perk of having a family full of mechanics.. i think most places charge around 250 for and install not sure.. but their is always hiden coast like resurfacing the flywheel if you don't get a new one.. and you can get that kit at pep boys or autozone .. the both had them in stock..

Most places charge around 60.00 an hour... and a clutch on a fwd car can take easily 4-5+ hours... depending on the mechanics...

Not really that's about standard. Toyota is just rediculous with their service pricing. Pep boys has a standard clutch replacement price of $399.00 on most front wheel drive cars. This is for an OEM style clutch and does apply to the Celica. It includes resurfacing the fly wheel, new clutch and new TO bearing. That is if you trust Pep boys to do your clutch...

Damn mac you actually make me want to go out and spend the money to get that done. Ive driven with my clutch slipping for so long I forgot what it feels like to be able to lay into it with all my little ST has. Next week I shall go take a look, any suggestions on a shop, can I trust pepboys, I mean Im planning an swapping in about 3 years so I dont need something spectacular right now, just something to get from A to B on the mean ST power. Thanks for your input guys

You should get a OEM clutch NoVa.. as cheap as possible. There isn't really any point to a clutch upgrade on a ST if you don't have any mods. Since you are going to do a swap, get a nicer clutch to go with the new flywheel then.

yea nova just go with something OEM.. and as for a shop try asking around for a good tranny shop around your area.. you might get the best price from them..

what clutch you using Mac? cuzz i plan on doing a supercharge later on.. possibility. Right now im just trying to Rebuild my head to handle some power later on. im trying to figure if i can use oem clutch kit got a quote for 150.00. I have my motor out of my car waiting upon the advice my fellow celica owners can give me to make it a little more beefier without tampering with the carb rules in cali. (note: if i get supercharge i know i cant past smog but i always can go back to stock mode to make it passed)

i'm using a luk clutch.. which is just an OEM type clutch...if your going to supercharge then i would go with something stronger.. like a stage 1 kit from ACT or CM ..
