So it seems my car alarm is stuck "on" and it's the type that cuts the ignition and battery when its going. I can't seem to figure out what to do. I can jump my car but the second I stop and turn it off, it completely shuts off and the alarm begins. It just goes and goes until the battery is dead...

Things I've tried:

- Valet switch...doesn't even seem to work correctly anymore
- Keyless remote...won't shut the alarm off anymore
- Starting car...the ignition is cut by the alarm going off

I haven't replaced my remote battery or my car's battery...those two are coming next. But really my only idea is to completely cut the power to the alarm all together....how can I do that???? Any other ideas??? Thanks everyone!

So you can jump-start the car meaning you can start it with a key and jumper cables hooked up to the car's battery? And when you turn off the car, the alarm siren goes off until the battery dies?

What if you drive the car for a while and let the alternator charge the battery...then if you turn off the car and try to start it 15 seconds later or so, will it start?

To cut power to your alarm, your best bet will probably be to find the alarm brain, and pull out the harness(es) going to it.

Yes and yes to the first questions. If I drive around to let the alternator charge, it dies right after I turn things off. I also had the radio and other electronics shut off during driving after it was started too, then they came back on after about 5 seconds and when the radio came back, the CD, clock and settings were exactly where they were before things shut off.......

Sounds like the alarm is loosing power. When you first power up most alarms they go off by default. Could be your battery voltage is low. Try hooking up like you are gonna jump your car. But don't turn on your ignition on. Does the alarm work like it should? If it does replace your battery.

If you still can't find the problem you need to find the alarm brain. Probably under the dash above you feet. If you disconnect the siren you can listen for the relays clicking to help you find it. You can either pull the whole brain out or look for an inline fuse that supplys power to the brain and pull it.

Call the maker of the Alarm and speak with them. They usually can help you troubleshoot the problem. At least mine did in Viper (DEI), they also make a ton of other brands like Clifford.

Thanks for all the input guys. Here's what I ended up doing. Last Thursday my roommate and I went out to jump my car. We had both cars turned off and when we connected the jumper cables, they gave a little spark and my alarm resetted. Without the ignitions on or anything, that little connection was enough to reset the alarm. I was then able to start my car and turn the alarm off with the valet switch. The alarm has been "off" ever since then and everything has worked perfectly. So from what I can gather, the alarm wasn't draining the battery, there was just a problem with the alarm constantly being on and cutting the ignition/power. So somewhere there's a short in my alarm - it's either time for a new one or I'll leave the valet swith on perminately. Cya later.
