Or you could try to swap in a 5sfe?? It would probably be the same price as a total rebuild, plus youd get more power.

that would be a totally WORTHLESS SWAP

for the same money effort as a 5sfe you could just do a 3sgte
dear lord the wacky info around here

to rebuild a 7afe
requires a great deal of work as with any motor
i think my friend just got his rebuilt for around 1k or so

If you do it your self some what cheap, if you have a shop do it, around $1200 then they'll throw in a bunch of BS and prolly get to $1500+ .. Id say just look for a low milage 7a-fe.. then just swap it out.

Would it really cost the same as a 3sgte?? I honestly didnt know that.. crazy. Is the 5sfe really that expensive?? You could just yank one out of a junk yard car and clean it up.

A good rebuild will cost you ~1k if you do it your self and have tools,
To include:
Rings, all crank/cam seals, water pump, timing belt tensioner, head gasket, getting the head milled and new valve seals at machine shop, exhaust gaskets, getting flywheel resurfaced, new clutch, all of those stupid gaskets on the intake, plugs, wires, and belts.

Dont' forget just getting lithium grease, loctite, pb blaster, gasket material, brake cleaner, antisieze, oil, brake fluid (for clutch), antifreeze, cotter pins, those stupid pins that hold the drive shafts in, and shim can run a few hundred dollars.

That's if you don't break any bolts too.

If it costs so much to rebuild why not just modify and end up with more performance gain than you will get by just rebuilding.

Yeah, just swapping my engine does sound like a good idea. I want a 5sfe engine but I have no idea how much it will cost or where I could buy one. Could someone give me prices and places where I can find 7afe and
5sfe engines?

as playr said, why would you do a 5sfe swap which would give you very little power, as opposed to a 3s-gte swap which would give you ALOT more power... and its only gonna cost a bit more.

take it easy man, the guy is new. besides I don't see you always giving correct info either

rather than a 5sfe swap, a more cost effective solution would be an A-series engine. this way you wouldn't have to change the mounts or transmission. a 4age, 4age 20v or 4agze would all be great options depending on how much money you have to spend

anyone who swaps out a 7afe for a 5sfe is a pure idiot...first of all 5sfe is 2.2liters which means it burns more gas than a 2 liter 3ste and it only put out what 135hp? so hp per liter sucks ....7afe is way more efficient considering it does 115hp 1.8l....if ur gonna switch to an s series drivetrain go with 3sge if u cant afford the 3sgte...3sge will give u at least 170hp and kills 5sfe

Hey guys look all I wanted to do was try to new engine. I'm not try to do do a big swap. I dont have that kind of money. My engine now has alot of miles on it so i want a new one. I think I might take advise from gh0st_d0g and get a A-series engine. I would still like to know how much the 5sfe would cost just in case I dont have the an A-series.

hello drew...

im thinking about putting a new engine in my car also.. in the next couple months...

if your willing to spend around 450 - 750 dollars... u could get a 3sge engine with 145 - 170 hp (depending on block head) .. the 3sgte would cost uy about a grand more but will give u 240 hp..

heres a link where u could buy them..

http://www.toysport.com/catalog/PET%203S-G...0Conversion.htm

as for the a seris engine.. i dont know where u could get those... but i hope this helps!

How much does it cost to have a shop do the swap for you?? Im guessing upwards of $1,000 in labor costs?

im getting a 5sfe and building it up. You can get one of those for cheap like a dime a dozen!

250 - 600 bucks depending on how many miles are on it i bet is what ur looking to pay for a 5sfe
