I really would like to know if they make a head unit that plays mp3s and stores them to the unit itself. I dont want a head unit that can play a cd with mp3s on it, but one that you can pop in the cd and upload it to some 20 gig hard drive or something, like an ipod except built into the car. I know that you can get an aux line, and i know that you can get players that use memory sticks, but i was wondering if they make them that they have built in storage. If there is such a thing, can anyone recomend anything? thanks.

You'd need a deck with it either built in or one thats made for a music keg which at this point is rare or non existant.

nope your wrong, it connects to the changer interface and you can browse playlists, albums, artists, folders from the headunit

I have a X-869... which I love.

BTW: With the music keg it is fully controlled through a Kenwood compatible head unit. It basically acts like a CD changer... but with a 20gb drive.

Rockford Fosgate makes a pretty cool looking one. It has a system that you can hook up to your home stereo included. I'm sure you can find a better price on it, I just did a quick search for it on eBay and got that one. I like the wireless feature that autoupdates the songs on the harddrive...pretty nice features in it.

^^^^^^^^^wow^^^^

for the music keg, Rockford Fosgate, and the sony, does it say the name of the cd on the head unit, or just give it a number or something? Can you sort by artist, etc?

i've currently got one of these
http://www.digmind.com/store/index_500.html
(in the 60gb flavor) plugged into the aux on my alpine head unit.

been thinking about getting another, but without a hard drive and then taking it apart and building it into a box that will fit under my head unit.

most of my music is in 192kbps ogg-vorbis so xclef and iriver were the only options.
