Can you paint an intercooler without affecting the functionality of it?

I dont think it will affect the functionality if your paint the intercooler properly.
I've seen many cars around with their intercooler painted.
Mostly black so it has the sleeper effect biggrin.gif

all you have to do is use high temp paint and allow it to dry properly and make sure you use primer smile.gif

My intercooler is painted black. No probs except flaking from dead bugs - nothing a little soap and a new coat can't cure.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

I like understated as opposed to flashy. Chrome intercoolers look great but a little too much "bling" for my taste.

Ditto, I opted for the water to air to keep the sleeper style. Even if I got a FMIC, I'd paint it black. I wouldnt use primer tho, from what I have read a light coat of black is fine. Using primer and then more paint would most likely hinder the heat exchange.

Personally I'd recommend radiator paint.

Sport your intercooler proudly. Why be modest and try to hide beautiful engine work when you spend so much time to achieve it? I dunno....nothing is better to me than seeing a Spearco logoed intercooler peeking out from behind the bumper of a really clean looking car...

I'd like to have a nice intercooler in the front of my car but with this talk of "Cali racing breakdowns" I want to keep my car as much a sleeper as possible.

I put a grill in front of mine, aluminum, to keep some bugs and rocks out of it, and it just looked funny - too much silver.

so, i painted my grill...
