Make it go fast before you make it look good, otherwise your just a ricer.

3sfe Header
Custom 2 1/4 piping with easy flow muffler of your choice
SS tec lowering springs
Suspension tec sway bars front and rear
Custom cold and intake
Better brake pads
Front and rear strut tower bars

These are just basics. You can do them in any order, some help more than others though. Have fun with the Celica.

There's nothing ricey about making the car look good -- it's when you confuse looks with performance that you cross over...

BTW, 3SFE header? Uh no -- try either a 5SFE header or a 3SGE stock manifold.

Actually, all you need to do to make the 3sfe from a 85-89 Celica (I think that’s the right years), is to drill out a hole just a little bit. It's almost a direct bolt up. The down pipe will have to be custom fit though, but shouldn't be too much work for a decent exhaust shop.

As for the ricers; If you see a Civic running around with a big wing, maybe bodykit, some wheels, and some interior pieces painted some weird color, and the car has maybe a "fart can" muffler but otherwise stock, you would call it rice? I know people would call it rice. Don't think that just because it's a rare Celica that you are omit from the rice label. The only reason a car shouldn't be at least a little faster and look good would be a lowrider, and they should still have some engine mods. The Celica was supposed to be a sports car, not some gay guy's target of fashion.

Not to mention there is nothing in that list to make you go appreciably faster. Oh, yea, a cold air intake will add about 2 h.p......woohoo!

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

jgreening, I see what your saying, those things won't make the car go that much faster. They do help though, and like I said, they are the basics. Using a CAI with synthetic oil and full exhaust will make a noticeable difference. It won't be as much as a turbo, but it'll be something. I'm not kicking on people who take care of there cars here. For example; if you want to put on something like nicer wheels if you have steal ones, or if you replace some parts with jdm, like headlights for example. The problem is people get out of hand with the "making it look good." It seems to be most of the Celica community if you ask me. I know, I know, no one asked me. I'm just a racer. I don't like a car to be pretty. People have been giving me crap since I was around 12 years old, back then for my motorcycle. I always had to hear, "Why are you wasting that money on performance parts? As long as it runs, it's fine." And from my dad, "Why don't you spend some money on something that's going to make the car worth more, like a ground effects kit or nice wheels?" I don't see why it's so bad for me to give someone hell on the other side of the debate.

EDIT: Editted for spelling and clarity.

I agree. Bigmeanbulldog, a full exhaust on a stock normally aspirated car will make no difference other than noise. A cold air intake will add a couple horsepower but it will also increase noise. Synthetic oil does NOTHING for power. My question is why spend the money on these "power adders" when you would go from 120whp to 122whp? If you ask me, its a waste of money (unless you like the different noise and are willing to pay for it).

To keep this post on topic, here is what I recommend for modifications if you have $1500-$2000 to spend:

Suspension Techniques Sway Bars - $250
Lowering Springs - $125-$200
New Struts - $250-$600
Inexpensive 17" wheels with nice performance low profile tires - $800-$1200

These modifications will make your car handle much, much better. Next to the 3sgte, the sway bars made the most difference in upgraded performance than any other part that I bought. The other nice thing about sway bars is that they will make your stock springs feel much stiffer in the corners due to decreased body roll.

Hey jgreening, when you agree to something like that, it means to shut your freaking mouth and not keep trying to start stuff. So shut it. Lock up this freaking thread, see what I care. The kids already got all the info, and if he wants more he can search for it. I mean, seriously man, I saw that it was getting out of hand on my last post, which is why I tried to justify myself and sort of, probably not very well though, apologize. Don’t' talk to me like I don't know what I'm talking about. I make it my business to know how to make cars faster, and on these older cars you can pick up good numbers on intake/exhaust mods. Do you think you’re so much smarter than me just because you can afford the swap? Or did you just read my post about how people have been picking on me my whole life about buying performance parts and decide you wanted to twist the knife a little? Either way, you’re a jerk.

I know arguing on the internet is like racing in the special olympics and what not. Sorry to Julz for the stupid stuff I put in this thread. Sorry to moderators who have to deal with this. Sorry to all respectable members of the Celica community. I just want a fast car, and I want to talk to other people who like cars and respect each other. I love cars, always have and always will. It depresses me so much to have argument like this one.

shush^^^^^^^

as for the starter of the topic, i'd say put money into the suspension like jcgreening said for more fun to drive, then go with a engine swap or turbo kit if you want it to go fast

If you read closely, my post is filled with facts while yours is filled with attacks. Perhaps you need to think about who is being the jerk.
