You don't want to race or run anywhere above 5800 in a GT either. You lose power at 5800 RPMs.

huh, theres no significant power drop off in the 5sfe until after 6500rpm. peak is yes around 5800. but you should shift at the limiter.

if you shift at 5800rpms (~120whp) and land at 3800(~75whp) you gonna pull a slower time then if you shifted at 6200rpms (~110 rpms) and landed at 4200rpms (~100whp).

also yeah i thought both were 6200rpm rev limiters.

When i shift at 5800 i get a better second gear reaction then i do when i shift at 6200 rpms this has ben discussed before. In a post i posted for a cavalier vs celica GT. more people will post in here and say the same thing that after 5800 rpms you lose power

yeah i mean landing at 3500 rpms is going to give you more torque but not mroe horsepower and thus a fast time.

i understand that more people are gonna say that but until they look at a dyno they will think that they are right, and im sorry but theyre not.

The stock redline on the ST is 6200 and 5800... depending on what year and emissions trim you have. I don't know exactly which is which... but both of the mentioned redlines are correct. As far as fuel cut goes... the ST is something like 6500-6700 rpms.

As for the GT... it doesn't make sh!t for power after 5500 rpms and drops off as much as 40 hp and 40 ftlbs or torque by redline... so whoever says otherwise... HAHA. =/

i have fuel cut right around 6,500 rpm.. i have a 94 and i've raced my friend 97 special edition and its conciderabely slower --- i spanked him :-/. i've driven both cars and i've noticed that the redline is lower in the 97 and his fuel cuts off pretty much right at redline as of my 94 i can go as far as the gauge can.

--------------------
the 1/4 doesnt have patience for a ST.... so we make them ST-T's so atleast we'll sound good going slow.

94 - 95 ST's have more horsepower, but less torque than the 96 - 97's. And yes, the 94 - 95's do have a redline at 6200 when the 96 - 97's are at 5800.

100% correct on all accounts.

94-95 110hp OBDI 6200

96-97 105hp OBDII 5800

Yeh i noticed myself that if we shift over 5500 my car is slower, and this is from trials racing against my friends repeativly.
