Here's sometime to ponder.

a 6th gen celica with a 3sgte swap with stock tranny.

vs

New honda civic.

1 car is turbo charged and pushes abt 200 horses,

and

the other is a NA and pushes abt 200 horses too,

about the same kerb weight.

who would win from a dead launch?

The Civic has a 6 speed right? That would mean it could keep in the power band easier. It seems to be a pretty good toss up.

I am sorry to say that Civic will be faster than a celica with 200bhp.
This kind of race is very popular here. But, with both cars modificated, the hondas have no chance against celica.

I think all you guys are forgetting no one swaps the USDM 3S in, a swapped celica will usually be making 225hp. The civic has what? 197? I can't believe this is even an arguement. It's already been proven in other threads that a swapped celica is even faster than an RSX-S; an Si is breakfast.

the swaped celica would win without even trying

look at the dyno sheet i posed of my car. other swapers have posed theirs as well. mine made 229hp and 240tq at around 12-13psi at the wheels. if you want to compare it to the civic, youll have to add about 15% to figure out the power at the flywheel. if you do that, your talking about 263hp and 276TQ, in a celica that only weighs about 2800lb vs an NA civic at 200hp and probably a lot less torqe

Swapped Celica = much quicker.

MotorWeek managed to run a 15.6 @ 93 Mph in a 2006 Si. With a seasoned driver and alot of practicing you could expect maybe a few tenths off that time at best.

Zipstrips ran a totally stock 3SGTE swap on below-stock boost at Island Dragway here in NJ and got a 14.5 I believe....and Jeff ran a 13.9 with his RC swap running about 12-13 psi, downpipe, full 3" exhaust and thats it.

Draw your own conclusions smile.gif

EDIT- and the Civic is heavier than the Celica by about 200 pounds. wink.gif

you really cant compare a swaped celica to another car thats "turboed" and "pushing xxx", unless you know what mods he has done to the car. just because its a civic with a turbo, dosnt mean its going to be fast/slow.

hence why i said "at that point its who has more cash, better tires and balls"
once you come to mods....its just who has more cash to put more parts on and make more power...its not the car..its the owner...and just cause its a celica turbo doesn't mean it will be fast/slow either..
too many variables to make a general assumptions

I've met a guy at my college with a turbo hatch, single cam d16 with a t3/t4 setup. Its probably somewhat quick, but i've seen him take off hard before and most of the swaps here are faster by a significant margin, so he's probably only running a few pounds on a stock engine.

In the same breath though, i'll also say that I've seen the same motor turboed, and running a 10-11 second quarter mile at Island Dragway here in Jersey.

There is no defining which car is quicker simply by the word "turbo", that word only gives you a small gimpse into how much power a car is putting out.

wow how did i miss this topic?!?

stock Civic Si Vs. unmodified 3SGTE swap (meaning still running stock boost etc etc), the Celi will win...i know cuz i've raced a few smile.gif

also raced rsx-s medium modded and won and a lightly modded (bolt on only) s2000 and won, both were on rolling start of 20-25 and i was on 10psi with a crappy exhaust setup (which sadly im still on lol will redo soon)

edit: the honda cars arent bad at all. theyre amazing N/A performers, its just that they lack torque and high end power. i started pulling on both the RSX-S and the s2000 at around 60 3rd gear'ish and just left 'em at 4th and 5th gear. that S was mighty quick tho...quicker than the s2000 since he beat the s2000 lol

bboy

what kinda race is at a rolling start? lol. either way, i think we've come to the right conclusion...there are so many cars id like to see the celi race and beat, just cuz ive gotten passed on by so many big slow cars.

^you've never heard of 3 honks with a roll?? not all race starts at a dead stop wink.gif

both cars are pretty well match (stock vs stock) and consider the swap on the celica was done correctly, a tired turbo and worn 3sgte may not deliver all 200+ hp, it's pretty much a driver's race + things that people have mentioned such as tires, etc.

the civic is a low 15s, and may take the celica earlier in the race, but once the celica spools!!!!! pppssssssshhhhhhhhhh.....*insert bov here* the civic is toast!!!
