Wondering what you did to eliminate the Engine code 71 MIL light? I'm thinking of adding a resistor to the EG sensor so it feeds the correct voltage to the ECU. What ya think of that idea?

i get that from time to time... it seems to be a result of a current draw (before adding a diff setup when id beep my air horns on the highway maybe a mile or less down the road CEL wld come on) or driving style (like hard excelloration then almost coasting & back n forth) something crappy im told about early computers, supposedly the newer ones dont do this cuz they are smarter, ive looked into it a lil bit n ive seen that cleaning up the sensor & valve area of gunk n such wont make it stick as much n pop the light on as often, ive done that and havent had to use my lil paperclip at all for the past 2m since doing so

yea i have the same thing with the egr code b/c of my jdm 7a-fe ive repalced just about everything on the egr system any other ideas?

I'm currently trying relocating the sensor up against the head to try to get some heat so it will feed a voltage to the ECU so it knows the EGRsystem is functioning. Also thinking of using a 2k resistor instead of the sensor to BS the system into thinking the sensor is getting hot exhaust. ON a JDM 7AFE there is no EGR port in the head even though the sensor bolts up to it, therefore it gets no heat to active the sensor.

So far so good, I bought a 4.7K ohm 1/2 watt resistor at Radio Shack(pack of 5 for .99) bent the wires on it and stuck it in the EG probe wiring harness connector. I've driven the car 4 times since then on the highway and NO check engine light! Usually comes on after two drive cycles. I'll need to make a more waterproof install later. The Alldata tech manual shows the probe is a varible resistor and when heated to approx 350deg reads around 2-4k ohms, lower temps raise the ohm value.

This idea may work for other JDM engines with the engine code 71 fault too!

I just put in my JDM 7afe this past weekend the port you guys are talking about is that the one on the thermostat housing whereas the us has a port switch spot for it but the jdm doesnt ?

It's only visible(invisible) when you unbolt the EGR tube off the head. Unblot your and see what I mean. The resistor is working great no check engine light for EGR code 71.
