Hi everybody
I've one basic question... for a last week looking for forged pistons to my GT4 and found somehing like that: http://alamoautosports.com/product_info.ph...roducts_id=6181 http://alamoautosports.com/product_info.ph...roducts_id=6183 http://alamoautosports.com/product_info.ph...roducts_id=6182 ...they all suposed to fit mr2 1990-1995 but maybe someone know if they will fit Gt4 st205 import from Japan ?? ...or maybe you know where can get pistons (with rings) cheap ? Thanks for and info. Regards This post has been edited by mellow: Jul 18, 2007 - 2:21 PM |

Yup, same rotating assembly in both the ST205 and Turbo MR2

yes, all 3S pistons are interchangeable. Same bore and stroke.

So there was defenetly no diffrence in pistons between 3sgte generaction 2 and 3 ??
as if I remeber good gen2 3sgte (st185) had diffrent piston dishes that gen3 (st205) ... gen2 has flat and gen3 has dished pistons as compression is lower ... that's why I was not sure about mr2... Where can I check part no to be 100% sure ? and one more thing will they fit standard rods ? Thanks for quick answers!! |

The reason the tops looked flat or dished, is to change the compression ratio. Both would still fit

I put gen 2 3GTE pistons into a gen 3 3SGE. No issues.
The rods are all the same too, as is the crank. -------------------- Scott

off topic... put i think its amazing that you're tackling pistons and have made only 2 posts (this thread) in almost over a year since joining.
to answer your question, the links dont work for me.. but if your going to spend the money for pistons (assuming your current ones are not torched) id advise to spend the extra and get rods & bearings while ur at it, also try n make friends with a machinist or get your crank worked on too, just think of how much better your engine could be while you have it apart!! all that extra boost and a lower end to safely support it -------------------- you know why they put sheep at the edge of a cliff.... that way they push back!

Jason, I have to disagee with you, the stock 3S rods are very sturdy and dont usually need to be replaced unless they've been damaged, or your planning on high HP numbers - 500+ HP.
I do agree with replacing the bearings, seals, etc.... and definitely about making friends with a machinist! This stuff gets expensive fast. -------------------- Scott
