Well.... im ordering my TRD replica wing tomorrow from erebuni, which is in need of some paint and off of that i decided why not just paint the whole car biggrin.gif

Ive had past experience painting helping my dad paint bus grills for greyhoud ( i know random), one of his best friends works for grey hound, and my dad would fix the broken grills bondo and everything, so ive had some paint applying experience.

i got some dings, and fender dents, and hail damage on the hood(stupid chicago winter). and some weird paint chipping? i guess on my front bumer ill post a pic of it to show. really weird.

anyway... i was just wondering teh process in which i would have to go about and the supplies i would need. i already have an air compressor, two guns, face mask, and goggles, so ill look pro laugh.gif i just want some advice in what i should buy and whats good or bad

Paint: im gonna be gettin paint matched, at a shop with good rep, autowerks. http://www.e-autowerks.com/index.html

Paint supplies: this is where i need help, i kinda know what i need like primer, thinner, sand paper, body filler. but dont really know the specifics on what to get. anyone have a list, just a general list of what i need. then go to specific products from there.

I have no Idea mate wink.gif.
I have no skills in painting anything, so I would use someone who do It for a living to spray anything on my car.

2 gallons of paint is wayyyyyy too much. One gallon should be more than enough for everything. If you are going to paint the whole car, I suggest you not use can. My brother and I painted my civic in the garage. This was our first time painting and we decided to practice on my the civic, hell, it's just a crappy daily. I think it turned out pretty good. ..In fact, it turned out so well that we decided to go ahead and paint his beloved supra. It costed me about $450 for everything for my cvic and about $600 for the supra because my brother went with some higher end metallic paint. Mine is gloss black. Sorry, I don't remember the brands we used. What I do remember is that you will need TONS of sand paper.

My civic before paint...

All primered up.. and yes, we primered the darn thing outside. biggrin.gif

Orange peel + gloss.

After..

My brother's supra being done the same way.

Not yet wetsanded...

Getting ready to be wetsanded..

The supra is not done yet. It still needs to be compounded more in certain areas. I will post close-up pics of the metallic paint later.

Car next in line for paint.. this one is gonna be a beauty. I can't wait. smile.gif

I hope this helps.

That list sounds good so far.

We wetsanded the orange peel with 1500 & 2000 grit sand paper. It took FOREVER! We then compounded the sand marks off with medium cut compound using a rotary buffer. Then we switched to a fine cut compound and scratch remover. Polish and wax after.

You should do it. You'll learn a lot about paint and appreciate your car even more.

No, not the rattle can kind. We bought a gallon of primer and a gallon of clear and just sprayed it on the same way you would paint the car. We did 2 layers of primer, 3 layers of base and about 5-6 layers of clear.

That looks really good. I want to paint the Celica, but I don't think I could do it nearly as well as some people on here.

not 2 gallonscan..................... 2 SPRAY/AEROSOL CANS!!!!!!!!!!

hold on i'll get my pics up and do a small write up..........if you're just wanting to paint your wing then why waste all that $$ getting pro-painting stuff when a nice $7 spray can x2 can do the same work.

i know it sounds ghetto but he it saves $$$ and it works.

here is my pics
i used 800 grit and wet sanded
then 1500 grit again
primer
some bondo and fiberglass work
then used the AEROSOL can not GALLON can to paint
with clear coats

total cost:
2 black spray/aerosol cans = $16
3 clear spray/aerosol cans = $24
sand paper total = $10
bondo and fiberglass = free from my dad
primer = also free from my dad

total time 3 days for prep, primer, paint, and mounting.

Not bad for an 18 yr. old kid..........LOLz
