I want to get those web cams everyone is touching on...so i send my cams out to get reground to the 294s??? Both of them? Or like one's a 272 and the other is 294? What about head work? Do I need to upgrade the springs or valves or fuel management or anything at all? Please give me some advice guys cause I'm about to start the build soon.

Please search around the other recent posts regarding this subject...these issues have been addressed in posts entitled "cams are here", Web Cams Link and Questions", and "How high do you guys rev your 5SFE?"

The other posts have touched upon the subject but haven't answered my questions sufficiently enough. Fuel management...no one has answered that questions nor has anyone answered the question about head work and springs or valves.

wow bro, your touching on new territory here.....firstly, why are you regrinding your cams to that specs? if you dont mind me asking...

And just like a turbo upgrade, going with the degree cams you are getting, youll need newer everything....in basic terms you are trying to bring more air into your engine, therby, causeing you to have an increase in fuel requeriments, timing, comperssion, and alot more....that is to answer you question as simply as i can....

Basically for starters, those cams are what can be referered to as the advertised duration...meaning that in actuallaity, they will be degreeed slightly less, due to the way they are read and yadda ya

also, as far as everything else...wow, im sorry its just too much for me to type right now....im half drunk, and trying my hardest..hope you can understand....anywho, ill pm you some info that should be able to help you, but by the looks of it, your looking at a serious n/a engine build...i say that because im going for the same thing, with cams of that degree..anywho, can anyone else help this guy out...maybe some ppl with more experiance lol ^_^

Thanks for the info...that's exactly what I was looking for. I think I'll re-think those cams afterall because I really don't want to go and up the fuel system and head. I'll just stick to the port/polish/header and quick tune for a/f. THANKS!!!

All you need is to do is install the regrinds with some new shims, and maybe fine tune the a/f ratio abit with an safc on the dyno. Thats it.

Exactly. This is the same thing Manny and Dustin (who just installed them and has posted about it recently with the dyno sheet) are saying, and they are practically mechanics. As is Lagos.

What?!? Then I want the cams! So NO upgrading the fuel management or head internals??

installing the cams is not a difficult thing. doing the timing belt work is harder than the actual camshaft install

What kind of timing belt work is needed?

the cam specs that you are talking about is the the advertised duration or the @ .050" duration. the only reason i ask is because that is alot of duration for a stock re-ground duration.

so...cams and stiffer springs then tune??? Timing belt work, what about that??

i just gotta quick question:
do you lose a noticable bit of torque/low end power with the colt cams for the 5sfe?

i really like the way the 5sfe picks off the start. could anyone answer this ^^?

you lose virtually nothing down low with dustins webcams.
i would assume with a similar grind from coltcams, the result would be the same.
i have spoken with geoff about his cams (hes the owner of coltcams) and he claims to use some diffrent machining " tricks" to get the most out of whatever grind it is, both high and low.
we'll have to see the dyno results once someone gets a set for real world results.
for now, you can check dustins post about his cams for an overlay of his dyno run VS mine, that shows the exact #s..
from when ive driven it, and heard him talk about it, ive never felt like there was a power loss that was noticeable down low, just the massive gain past torque peak.
it really makes the car much more "sporty" to say the least.

the blue is me with the webcams (95 with 155K miles) and the red is a stock 98 5s w/51k miles.

awesome. thanks for the great info from both of you guys . now, i'm going to go for it with the colt cams for sure. just gotta wait until I get my spares, hopefully soon.
