Hi I'm new here, and i need some opinions from you guys please. smile.gif I'm thinking of getting a 6gc for my first car so I've been reading about them. I know a little bit about engines and stuff but i want to learn so im taking classes in the summer. Is it a good car to start with? I'm not really looking into speed (turbo and stuff) but I will still try to improve it since right now I'm only 16 going on 17. Where does the celica stand in all the cars out there? thanks everyone!

I'd say the Celica is one of the best starter's car, good on gas, reliable and not speed machines, they look really nice and up to date design, so if the one you get doesn't have a rust, scratches or faded paint, you'll have one great looking car, with good handling and not much speed. At 16-17 years old you should be focus on improving your driving skills, so the speed factor will not be a problem, you're gonna enjoy it if you get one.

if your celica is a manual, they can be fun to drive* its not your everyday civic or integra for shure. theres afew bodykits if thats your cup-a-tea; also some suspension bolt-on mods; but even fewer proformance options. if you have the gt version, you've got a 5s-fe about 30 more hp than the st, "that sits at about 110hp" but, you can swap out your headers for a turbo manifold from an "mr2 turbo", or the celica holy grail "gt-four". less optoins for an st model celica frown.gif

now if you go badgeless you may hear things like... "what year integra is that?" "dude, is that a supra?" i find the first question an insult, but the second put a big smirk on my face*

i was in your shoes lastyear, but a year older. if you take pride in your celica, wash and wax, and dont flog her; its a great 2 door car with tincy backseats, and a HUGE trunk if you have a hatchback! ive got 2x 10in subs and my amp with so much room left for cargo.

what im saying is, get the celica...
my friends have civics and sunfires, and im shure there faster than my car, but damn the ladies love clean waxed celicas. hondas look like ass parked next to my car, dont matter how big there rims are*

thanks guys! i found a 97 celica manual. and thanks for putting things in simple terms smile.gif im hoping for it to be gt i guess, but if its not I don't mind. I think I will have roughly around 2000 to fix the stuff inside the hood to make the car better, won't be worried about looks or anything till it runs good. What do you guys suggest I should do first? Any major stuff i should do before getting into more detail? I have another question though hatchback and coupes aren't the same... right?

coupes have more backseat room, but in my humble opinion are ugly when you could have a hatch* have a strong engine* not fast, but dependible, no squeaky belts ect... and 2grand is damn good for a celica! imagine what else you can buy with 2k, a **** ford escort, or a chevy beretta laugh.gif

I'm leaning toward a body kit a little because it does look nice on some cars. XD i went photo searching and that picture changed my mind about them. I dont think ill have any decals though, prolly the only one would be of a small flying cow on the rear laugh.gif

If you're not in a rush i'd suggest waiting for the right car rather than rushing into one you'd regret down the road. Took me a year and 4 months to find mine and it was a 6 hour drive away, and I couldn't be happier. If you like the GT, which I recommend, wait for one
