So I moved out to Portland, Or.. It's a pretty neat place.. I have an apt southwest of the town and it's a nice area. Lots of stores out here and what not... I like it. Always sucks getting settled into a new place though... boring n what not since I really don't have any friends here... The drive was pretty interesting.. drove from eastern PA in my 93 corolla.. I got to Cheyenne WY and I80 was closed so I traveled north through WY to pick up I90 in Montana.. those mountain roads are serious business this time of year!

Where are you from originally? Or was it PA? That is quite a drive. How was it? How many miles are on your car? I only have 147k on a 95' (Which I believe is good) and I haven't even driven it to Los Angeles because I am worried it won't make it or that something will happen.

I drove from eastern PA.. it was a 2900 mile drive through some of the ****tiest places known to man (iowa.. wyoming, montana...)
It had a 166K on it.. now has just under 170K. I bought it for $650 with a blown engine.. so I found a good 7afe at a junk yard with a 136K... Dropped it in and left a week later. I had the car loaded up with like 400-500lbs of my crap.. tools, computer, clothes, school books etc... Did 80-90mph the whole way and had no problems at all and got 30-32mpg. The worst mileage I got was through Wyoming bc of 30mph winds gusting to 60mph and for a good time that was a head wind.. so just trying to keep it at 75mph going up the hills with the wind was a struggle... I probably only got like 25mpg through there.

i'm fine with the rain. If I buy a car it'll be a certified pre-used or something along those lines.

Really? My friend Gil came from Hawaii and really wishes to go back. Yet I have family members from there and they just like to visit there. I guess it all depends. I hear there isn't much to do sometimes. Still looks beautiful though.

I'm not much bothered by the rain... I knew I was getting into that.

Give it a few years... I've been here 9 years now from NYC and this is the first winter that it's truly affected me. You will however LOVE the summers here... summer here is EXCELLENT! Beats any summer on the east coast, hands-down.

PM me if you get hard up for work... I know you're looking for a welding job, but my job is always hiring production workers if you really need work. It's minimum wage, I think, or close to it (OR minimum wage is like $7.60 I think) but it's guaranteed work and pretty chill. I could also ask around if we're hiring for other positions too, although if it's just temporary for you it'd be better to just go w/the production/assembly stuff. And it's not too far from where you're staying.

I moved here to see a new place... for school and honestly because I felt God calling me here for some reason. Might explain why I swapped a good running 7afe into the corolla and left only a week later and had absolutely no problems on my drive... You really start to get some strong faith going when you are in the middle of wyoming/montana at night and there are very very few cars around and nothing but big sprawling land... oh and it being 10F out AND going for 5-10 miles with zero cell phone reception.

I don't know how long I will stay here... maybe I will leave this summer sometime... Flying is 50 dollars more an hour here than back at home and let me tell you that seriously adds up over the span of ones' flight education. I'm really diggin this girl I started talking to and I think she feels the same about me... MAYBE this was part of the reason I was supposed to come here.
