Hi folks,
I'm off on my vacation to Florida in March & seeing as though the $ is at a very favourable rate to the £, I'm thinking of getting some car audio bits.

But I've just thought that a head unit bought it the states may not work back here in the UK due to radio frequencies? Could anyone confirm this for me if the radio frequencies are different in the states to over here in the UK?????

Cheers,

Rich

Go to crutchfield.com and email them the question as though you were interested in purchasing it from their web site or something. I have never even thought of that with the radio frequencies, although my first guess would be that it would be fine, radio waves are radio waves and since the tuner can pick up so many frequencies, not just two or three like a cell phone, you'd be fine. The question remains however, what frequency do your stations begin at? Like our radios start at I think 87.1 or something, and end at I think it's 107.9 (for FM, of course). Are they the same in Europe?

I just looked at their web site, and while it doesn't say anything about compatibility, I did notice that their policy is that you must have the shipping made to a permanent address in the US. So if you contact them, remember to say you're having it shipped to a US address but will be taking it home with you when you visit or something.

It's not directly applicable, but with buying head units from the US to use in Australia, I've found that the FM band works fine, it's just the AM band doesn't qork, as the US AM radio band has different increments than we use here in Australia. It might be similar to this?

My old Blaupunkt reciever had the option to switch. It's a good brand, but can be hard to find. German, so I'm sure that influenced the addition of said option. And yeah, it would show the frequencies differently, tho I do not recall exactly how.

Hmmm kindasad.gif Maybe i should get a headunit in the UK & then take advantage of the £/$ exchange rate & get myself a nice sub & amp from the US biggrin.gif

Any recommendations of audio shops in Orlando/surrounding areas that stock JL/Alpine/MTX gear?

Rich

i got my Pioneer headunit from an American company called speedsound.com - it has a switch on the side to tell it to change from us to european frequency settings.

FM works fine - it only affects AM,
