common problem on the 3sge, the oil level sensor usually fails and is around £100 from mrT
you can bypass it by connecting the two wires that go to the sensor together iirc jdm's dont have this warning light anyway |

you can bypass it by connecting the two wires that go to the sensor together Woah - this is an incredibly bad idea. Obviously oil is very critical to your engine's life expectancy. If I were you I would first buy an aftermarket Oil Pressure Gauge for under $20 and hook it up and see if your oil pressure is normal. If so get another new OEM sensor and hook it up. If not and it looks like your sender is reporting that you do indeed have a low oil pressure then you need to take steps to remedy this problem. Driving around with low oil pressure is a quick way to kill your new engine. Man I can't believe someone on here would give advice like that. ![]() I think somone knocked the connector off the sensor. Also check this as bccentaur said - it is very easy and very common for this to happen. Happened to me on water temp recently. -------------------- ![]() ENGINE: '93 RC 3S-GTE/WRC CT-20b [18-20PSI] PERF: TRD/HKS/ARP/NGK/MSD/ACT/Blitz/STRI/APEX'i/TwosRus/GReddy/Magnaflo/KOYO SUSP: Tein/Bilstein/SusTech/ INT: SS-III SEATS/Toyota Hyper Sports EXT: WRC/TRD/404 Its a safety feature so that people like you don't end up killing themselves or everyone around them. No, they're right. The stock sender senses low oil pressure, when the oil level is low the pressure is reduced.
Assuming your sender is not faulty and your level is fine like you say, you could have a problem with your oil pump. This post has been edited by hurley97: Jun 20, 2008 - 6:37 PM -------------------- |

UK spec GT has, amber light = oil level red light = oil pressure coly is in the UK cheers everyone for all your sugestions i think GT202 hit the nail on the head usually in the uk red = for danger amber = for warning and this car is a uk spec car, talking to a few helpful diagnostic guys and some say this is a problem the newer toyota's are experiencing oil level sensor failing, done the usual checks and apart from the light on everything seems ok changed oil and filter just in case. again cheers everyone for all your sugestions. next step change oil level sensor i'll let you know how it works out. coly |

I realize this may not apply to you, but my comes on occasionally during hard cornering or if my oil level is low. I've been having issues with my valve seals leaking oil into the cylinder so I usually just change my oil when I have this issue to correct the oil levels.

I have the same problem but I have checked the oil pressure and I'm sure the oil level sensor is broken, so I have a paperclip that disconnectiong the kabel so that the light doesn't light up every time...
But now for my question, how much do you pay for a new one? Here in Sweden they are way to expensive... //Johan |

I'm in the UK and have a 94GT. The engine is a 3sge and all the time i've owned it the oil level light has always been on. If i knew were the sensor was ( belive me i've looked ) i'd just jump the pins to shut it off. I really don't think the light is nessasary... you should know when your loosing or burning oil. Its nothing to do with the preasure so dont worry about it. If anyone has a piccy of the sensor or can tell me were the plug for it is supposed to be i would apprecite it.

I don't have a picture today but if you remove the plastic under the enging you should see a cable going in (or hanging loose) at the bottom of the engine. It not that hard to see but I think you have to remove the plastic to get to it...
