so we've had rain around here lately and now my power antenna decided to become really noisy. on the way up it sounds fine but it makes a strange noise when it retracts. kind of like wrawh wrawh wrawh wrawh. thats about as close as i could imagine to type it. havent looked at the motor yet but i figured id try to see if this is a common problem with a common fix before ripping things apart.

i would appreciate any input

Pull the trunk panels, and you can easily disconnect the power antenna and motor from the car (there's a nut on the outside of the car as well as the ones mounting the motor).

Water can get into the system. Disassemble, clean, lubricate (brake grease works well) the gears and you shouldn't have to worry about it too much. If the plastic cord is broken, $30 will get you a new mast. The mast itself can be lubricated with just about anything, but I prefer graphite as it's a dry lubricant.

Quick trick to test where the noise is coming from -- pull the assembly, remove the mast, close the motor back up and hook it up, then turn it on.
