Will a MR2 engine will fit as easy as a ST205 clip in my GT or will the engine mounts wont fit?
Also, is there a sure way to know if the tranny is LSD?

There's plenty of posts about this, S-Series engines should fit the same, But compared to the GT-Four 3S-GTE which fits straight in, the MR2 3S-GTE is mirrored which makes it hard to fit, Use the search feature on the forums.

Oh about the transmissions, I *think* E153 & E154 gearboxes have LSD standard which is what 3S-GTE's come with

i'm pretty sure the early mr2's didn't have LSD stock.. only the later ones (94+ i think).
somebody confirm if this is true..

That I understand. I meant a ST205 -> ST202 complete SWAP with the AWD tranny. How do ou work that out? ST202 will not take the abuse from 3sgte engine for long.....

Yes it will. We in the States just keep our S54's about half the time - it's not the toughest tranny Toyota makes nor does it have LSD but it holds up to 3S-GTE pretty well wink.gif
Hell - Ask Itchy - he's known for breaking stuff and even he took several years of good HP abuse to break his S54.

This makes no sense - the motor is still mounted the same in an MR2 - no mirror effect whatsoever. It's just behind you instead of in front of you.

BTW - Years ago I helped Saynug make a rear tranny mount for his swap with MR2 tranny [this was before it was figured out that the ST-205 works in this application]. It can be done very easily now that everyone has mapped out the mount/axles/spacer/shift linkage issues.

It may mount in the same way, but the engine is more difficult to fit.

Oh I know there are all kinds of little differences in the way things are piped up and whatnot and I've never suggested someone source an MR2 clip to swap a Celica with but it's not like we're talking about two different engines. It can and has been done [on this site before as well].

dammit i know about all the posts its just that the god damn JDM shops dont wanna sell me only the engine of a ST205 and a tranny of an SW20... they say that they wont be able to sell the MR2 engine without the tranny and that they also wont be able to do so with the 4WD ST205 tranny.... and since in Canada its illegal to transform a 2WD to a 4WD i cant buy a front clip frown.gif

Any ideas anyone?

I'm about to sell my ST204 and just buy a 205 in january

Why you wouldn't just do that is beyond me. Swaps are great and they are great headaches 75% of the time too. Nothing beats Toyota installed factory goodness - especially if you want AWD.

Better time reaction as well on a quick launch
