Everything is installed finally, just had one more question, about adjusting the amp. I have:
Deck (52W Max power, 17W RMS X 4-channels, 4 ohms) Amp (800W Max Power, 125W x 2 RMS into 4 ohms, 340W x 1 RMS into 4 ohms) 4 Speakers (200W Max power,4 ohms, 50W RMS each One Sub (600W Max Power, 150W RMS, 4 ohms) Currently the speakers are connected to the deck, and the sub is connected to the amp, but when I turn the volume loud the bass gets distorted, not clean bass). Should I put in a 4 channel amp for the speakers? What should I set the gain of the current amp thats connected to the sub at, with this info? Since gain level is supposed to match RMS from the deck to the amp. Thanks for any help Speakers: ![]() Sub: ![]() Amp: ![]() Deck: ![]() This post has been edited by mikecelica: Aug 20, 2008 - 9:07 PM |

the speakers have nothing to do with the sub...the subs adn amp are running off opposite power supplies....did u run the power adn turn on lead next to eachother??IF so u need to move them, power wire and the turn on lead should be close cause the power lead lets off a radition thing that might affect the amp...
that amp has WAY to much power for that sub...a receipe for a blown sub ![]() go to crutchfield.com they have a crap load of info -------------------- BANNED. for life, you moron.

So the remote wire (that tells the amp when to turn ON) and the power wire SHOULDN'T be close to each other? Or should? From the amp (which is in the trunk), all the wires are taped together and go from the trunk, under the seats and under the center console, then the remote wire and rca wire go up into the deck and the power wire thru the firewall to the battery. Should I re-route the remote wire thru the door sills or somehting?
So based on that specs info what should the gain be set at for nice deep CLEAN bass with least distortion? And should I add a 4-channel amp for the speakers? Since the deck is only delivering 17W rms X 4 when the speakers each can handle 50W RMS. thanks for the help. ![]() This post has been edited by mikecelica: Aug 20, 2008 - 11:09 PM |

You should never run your power cables close to your signal cables. The amount the noise that will be absorbed into the signal will be massive espically along the whole length of the car (from the head deck to the boot). I am guessing the RCA is the signal wire that definitly wants to be away from the power.
Also i dont know much about brands of subs but if you put more power (RMS) in than it is rated for it will fail over a length of time could be milli-seconds or years but it will fail. -------------------- ![]() 1994年 トヨタ 神々しい My Facebook My Bebo QUOTE (loll6g @ Nov 6, 2008 - 5:53 AM) automatics are for lazy ass drivers who jst want there car so that they can look cool |

^^^ Listen to everything they just said ^^^
But it never hurts to make sure you have your EQ adjusted properly, my subs sounded ok when i first got but once i tuned them to handle more of the low end freqs and let my componets handle all the high end freqs it cleaned it up alot... Good clean bass is expensive... very expensive... trust me ![]() Seperate your signal wires from your power wires if they are next to each other as previously said, if that doesnt help as much as you want mess around with adjusting your EQ, your deck MIGHT be able to handle all that, or it will eb on your amp. -------------------- 1 JL 1,000/1v2

Yea Im gonna seperate those tomorow for sure, that might be why I get this distorted bass even tho my sub is brand new, two days told. But Im just not sure what to set the amp adjustments at. I have two adjustments, LEVEL & LOW BOOST. And the other is set at LPF.
What you guys think, should I amp the speakers too tho? I have a 4-channel amp sitting at home. ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by mikecelica: Aug 21, 2008 - 12:17 AM |

HMMM... then it might be on your deck, cause you should be able to adjust what freqs you want to limit your speakers and subs at... anyone else?? i got to go to work now, sorry i cant help more tonight -------------------- 1 JL 1,000/1v2

I have that same amp in my Audi it works great...
I personally wouldn't go past 60% on the gain level, and + 6 db on the low boost... Ideal would prolly be at 35-45 % level gain....but all headunits affect the amp differently so here we go... what you NEED to do is turn down the level on the amp, then turn up the radio to the level you would hear loudest.... once you do that first thing you want to do is listen to your in-car speakers and change bass/treble until there is no distortion.... once your in car speakers are clear (keep in mind most aftermarket speakers SUCK for bass so dont be mad with them its just the way it is) your going to add the bass to your music by slowly turning up the gain until you DO hear distortion.....at this point you will stop and slowly turn down the gain untill distortion dissapears again...stop there.....now you have tuned your amp!! and now you can lower the volume before you go deaf.... |
