So when I got my car, there already was an aftermarket Pioneer head unit installed with a lidded pocket underneath it. With the Pioneer installed, it didn't have a problem with letting the face fold down to let me insert or eject a CD, but with my new Alpine CDA-9857, the trim panel around the radio kinda sits on the faceplate and won't allow it to open. It did the same with the CDA-9855 I have but would still allow the motorized face to open every once in a while. I'm not too concerned about the CD part since I have an iPod cable now, but it just bugs me that it does this, so I might have to shave the panel around the radio down a bit. Did anyone else have this problem? Is it just a matter of design for the radios? What installation kits do you guys have?

That's weird...your face flips down to access the CD's? The only problem I had was the ring/bezel around the head unit which kept the trim from sitting down perfectly flush.

I have a Pioneer DEH-2000MP.

well one thing you could do is switch the pocket to the top then you wont have that prob, but there should be no dash kit or trim bezel for putting a radio in this car, so a pic would deff help, i have been through about 4 radios since i have had this car on monitor and a few that flip and i have had no prob with any of them

I had this same problem, strange thing was when i first put in my radio it worked fine but then i was working on it one day and it did this when i put it back together. I solved it by putting the pocket on top then it hit the trim to, so i took a file and shaved the corner down alittle biggrin.gif works good now and its not noticeable at all since it didnt take much.

Alex, is it actualy an install kit? Because i riped the factory head unit, and my after market installed right into the side bracket. Why dont you meet up with me and lets compare. We'll see if it's some busted BEST BUY installation kit or something. If so than we' can remove it, and i've got the washers to re-center the headunit. If not, than i've got a sander biggrin.gif and still have half a quart of FG and plenty of fiber-cloth to make you something REALLY cool!! laugh.gif

You got my number, My PM, and know that i get off at 5.00 pm. biggrin.gif Talk to you soon.

(BTW: i dont need that "expert" to shut my chick up anymore. I've handled it wink.gif )

Alex - I had that same exact problem with my radio. All you have to do is come over and pick up your $$$ for the GTS rims and stick around for 15mins and I'll have you fixed up with no cost in parts or other BS. I'm not even gonna try to explain the fix [Why you wouldn't just ask me in the first place IDK - you know I got that sh*t]

It was more of a general question to see if anyone else has the same problem. I'll swing by this weekend depending what Hurricane Ike wants to do.

I have a Kenwood excelon (x789 I think it is?) that also has a motorized face. My deck doesn't sit flush with the trim tho so it doesn't get stuck. For example, when the face is on, it sticks out past the trim, if you take it off the deck itself is flush with the trim. So basically the deck sticks out a little, i can take a pic if you like....

does the trim prevent the motorized face from working like it should? did you have to shave down the trim to get it to work?

Alex - all you have to do is take the bracket's monting holes with a small round file and elongate them upwards slightly until the radio clears. Still attached to the radio is fine as long as you mind the chips. You can see how much I did mine to get an idea. Now my face sits flush with the bezil but doesn't rub on the top.
I got the perfect file in my car ATM. We'll wait till after the Hurricane [Which BTW is gonna tear up the south side but we'll be fine out here in the NW - always are]

Yeah... no not really. I've been destroyed 3 times... But yet i'm still the first one to say "Fcuk that hurricane, we'll be fine"... IDK why? Maybe it's because i'd rather not waste my time being scared and woried, when i'd much rather drink another one and do something fun. meh, you guys know me; always the happy-go-lucky optimist biggrin.gif

3 times? Did you live in trailors? Cause if so I understand but that's just common sense - if you live in a trailor it's time to GTFO. tongue.gif
