First off its 31 before zero here [windchill]
So..went to go start my car started right up besides
some minor hesitiation and a bit of weird starting noises.
Let it run for 20 mins..thought it'd be super warm and toasty in the car.
Not at all, Its cold as it is outside almost.
I pop the hood and coolant lines are dead dead and filled with soild ice !
Should i let it run untill the engine warms up enough to thaw it out or what..
This is a new one for me. =[

Its in the garage right now with the heaters
on...Hope that helps a bit.

~prays ~ =/

I'd probably leave it in the garage for a while, if you run the car with blocked coolant lines you run the risk of overheating the engine... are you sure your coolant is at the right mixture?

hey, nice mod does it come in hetero?

Yeah, in the garage w/ heaters all up on it should help, if your running a 50/50 mix its only good down to -34 (aprox), giving where you live and how cold it tends to get you might consider running a 70/30 mix during winter (good aprox -84 f - 276 f). But if it really gets that cold there try to garage and heat you vehicles when left overnight.

No..I got a bit low on coolant like 2 weeks ago and toped her off with water so..its prolly like 60/40 antifreeze < water.
So i know its my own dumbass fault just trying to unthaw her now.

And yes i will def be garaging the DD from now on.

Leave it in a place even if it just 3 walls like a car tent or something, and connect it up with a block heater.
you should see over in Calgary, AB; the other day it was -37 WITHOUT windchill

This; good sir; is why Santa Claws (in the same arctic temperature you're at) himself drives a sled powered by reindeer instead of an engine driven snowmobile/hovercraft-jet. Granted the sled was made by Toyota, but still... no engine.

My advice is to move. kindasad.gif Otherwise i suppose a heating lamp would help, but you dont wanna run the engine w/o any circulation. I dont think it'd hurt too much, but i doubt it's a good idea... Garage or heating lamp. or both. Or move farther south wink.gif

Update:

I cranked the garage up to about 90 degrees for a day..let the slush and whatnot drain out of the rad and motor.
Refilled the cooling system with new coolant, Also found a freeze plug that poped out about a half inch.
So after all that car is running good again, .has heat and seemed to be good.Untill i examined the drained
coolant. The coolant is about a year old, But its very dark..Like very dark brown..I let a gallon of it sit in the
garage for a day..The bottom half was darker than the top half.Oil in the coolant ?..or just sludge from the motor ?

-And ya i plan on moving south asap, So..Im workin on it.

If you got oil in the water...shouldn't it be water in the oil then? so my tips is to check the oil and see if the oil is brown(ish). But it think it is just sludge... smile.gif

How's the freeze plug? Does is leak any fluid?
Good luck, hope you can fix it, I really hate when the engine freezes...my old Opel did that a couple of times.

I did some research.
if you have a blown HG [what i was fearing]..Its possible for
the coolant to have oil in it and not have collant in the oil.
and vice versa...So no according to the info on the net you can
have one w/o the other. The freeze plug was leaking collant.
But after i hammered it back in, It was fine.
No leaks..Thank god.
We're gonna get a warm front here in indiana..temp
is going to be in the mid 50's saturday..So im going to
drain and flush the entire rad and motor and refill the cooling system
again..See if that helps. ~ fingers crossed ~
