... The Royal Canadian Mounted Police. For the past..oooh I'd say 6-8 months I've been actively seeking a new career and I'm pretty much sold now on joining the police, it's something I thought before but never really seriously considered it until now. I'm a graphic designer now and I must say this ain't something I want to do until I'm 55, I hate it now I can't stand standing in front of computer for hours and bending over for client's needs isn't rewarding at all.

Anybody has inputs, or somebody they know in the police force? Or thought about joining the badge? I know some of you guys have no respect for them, shut it please. Its not all police officer's who's patroling the roads.

Yeah, I'm a graphic designer myself and the way I see it I can't stand doing this type of job til retirement unless I become management type in this field. They have been doing a lot of recruiting for the Border Patrol and I almost called them about it myself, lol. IDK If it's your passion go for it.

I say go for it dude. Im still on the fence about it, but only thing is, I know u got a house and all, your probably better off sellin it. The info sessions i went to said that after the 24 weeks of training in Regina, you have to spend 5 years at a single posting before you can transfer and chances of moving back out east within thouse first 5 years are slim to none. I say if you are gonna join for sure, lemme know, we will join at the same time and be like the reps for 6GC and EPhatch in the RCMP..lol

I don't remember having a talk about the rcmp with you specifically..do you guys have tons of radio ads recently? I'm def. looking into it and will let ya know, for when? I'm not sure, it'd probably be within the year 2010. The place of work is my main concern, I wouldn't like to be posted in nowhere land in the north for sure, but since I'm french/bilingual, I'd hope they'd leave in in Quebec or the Atlantic..well, that's my reasoning

Yea, pretty much one an hour on the edge (big rock station in toronto). Im probably not going to be applying till maybe mid summer. The application process in total takes about 6 months-1 year. From the time you do your written, physical, medical, interview, physc, second interview, ect to the time u start training they said usually takes a minimum of 6 months. With placement, they said the only time that you would go east is if you choose to work some where remote. So say you wanted to stay east, you would have to apply to say like a small town in norther quebec. At the same time, you could probably get posted some where like Surrey/Abbstford really really easily due to the raise in gang violence.

Right now im on the fence between RCMP, Vancouver, and Calgary. I wanna get out of Ontario and go some where that needs the help, not just some where where i would spend the first 6 months working in traffic services.

I know that the ads the RCMP runs in Vancouver promise postings in the Lower Mainland (which given the RCMP has, I think, the three largest detachments in the country here makes it easier to promise). Maybe move out here then apply.

^yeah, except they don't dress that way nowadays... they just look like normal officers but instead they patrol the highways and rural areas.

oh and they don't ride horses anymore either... at least not backwards lol

The new/more casual RCMP uniforms look like this...

with navy pants and a gold stripe down them. The red tunics are ment for special ocations or if your part of the musical ride. And yea, some officers ride horses, but like Azain_Advances said, when doing municipal work.

The RCMP is pretty much a mix of for the guys in the US, FBI, state troopers, and municipal police. They do policing on a municipal, provincial and federal level. In every province except for Ontario and Quebec, they are used as Provincial Police. Ontario and Quebec have their own provincial police.


And Galcobar you are right about the deatchments. Surrey is the largest detachment in the country fallowed closely by Absotsford i think. But most of the big ones are in the lower mainland.

Actually, Abbotsford is an independant police force. Surrey is largest (600+ members), Richmond third (200+), and Burnaby would be second with just under 300 members.
