I have an ST. My engine blew. Considering putting in a 3sge instead. I found a 3sge w/auto tranny and was wondering if there's any difference since my car's a manual.

Also I've been reading around and some people say it's a drop in swap and you don't need anything but the motor since it bolts up to the tranny.

Then some say use the tranny from the 3sge because the ST tranny can't handle it.

Then if you do that, some other things have to be done....

So... what's the minimum necessary to swap while being safe?

And would I need the wiring harness etc from the 3sge?

Thanks

which 3S-GE are you talking about? GenIII GenIV?

yes, it has additional sensors etc (if your using the Gen III or GenIV)
and would make the swap easier

hoping for a Beams. Either is fine though. Basically since I'd have to pay for an engine install anyways, might as well spend a bit more and have a better engine.

Thanks for the responses.

*anyone know bout the auto/manual differences? i'm thinking there shouldn't be anything cept the flywheel..

An S-series engine is not a drop-in for a Celica originally equipped with an A-series engine such as the 7AFE. Mounts are a particular issue.

ok if the 3sge's too much of a hassle, how simple would a 4agze be? i know it'll be easier since it's an A engine but is it worth it? i know its a bit more power but some people have said it's not a good engine and putting more effort into putting in a 3sg(t)e would be more worthwhile...

or could someone point me to a thread that discusses this? i dunno if my searching is just crappy.

thanks.

so... which set of cams is better, the ones for the auto or the manual? i never switched them when i did my auto to manual swap.

oh, and you'll need an s54 transmission if you get a 3rd gen 3sge biggrin.gif
