that doesn't sound like a bad price. if everything checks out go for it. i know the syncs go bad on them, the trunk shocks are weak, and the sunroof is a weird plastic type material. but that is with ever early model 2000-2002 celica.

And you based this opinion on???

a few of my mates have them, handle better and go better then any other non turbo celica of any generation.

The noise they make when they have been freed up (cat back for example) is simply awesome and lift is heaps of fun.

The engines are crap. True Story - My two best ZZ engine owning friends are each on engine #3 - neither car has reached 150K miles.
Just truth. If you don't race them or mod them or spend much time in lift I'm sur ethey will be fine.

So thats why they dropped the 2zz from the matrix lineup, but still kept for the corolla xrs.

Lots of bias here... as ALWAYS for this car and engine. Because the 2ZZ works like Honda VTEC...

2ZZ = Best toyota performance n/a 4 banger... PERIOD. Yeah... it's a junk motor that comes in one of the best handling cars in the world (Louts Elise)... All of the stuff about them blowing up and such and such... the engines rev to over 8000!!! Any more than that and it's like... super saiyan! Given how the engine works... which isn't for everyone... such as grocery getters and people movers... of course the engines can break. Given theres a ton of little moving parts associated with the VVTLi system... it's a shock they do so well. To argue it's the engine's fault because owners who abuse them blow them up... is just failure.

No... they dropped them from the Corollas too... at least the new XRS's. They dropped them because people don't buy toyotas as a fun enthusiast car. People buy toyotas to drive and stuff... so it's not cost effective for toyota to keep an engine around that doesn't appeal to most of their customers. Typical people like something that they can feel move their asses... like the 2AZ... because most people don't pen!s slap their engines everywhere they go to experience the most of its performance.

lmao i love kwanza haha

i think they are good cars - the action package looks sharp if you are going for a tuner look - otherwise i think they are great.

if it looks clean and is free of abuse and still in good condition, its a fair deal - so go for it

It's a Toyota. It's gonna be pretty reliable. You're not looking at a Buick here tongue.gif

try googling "reviews for the 2000 Toyota Celica GTS" and see what other people are saying too.

when i had my 7th gen i loved just about everything about it except the cheap interior. 7k with 120k miles is an ok price depending on condition. i bought my excellent condition 2000 celica gts 6spd for 5k with 120k miles. it was practically brand new i should say smile.gif people will have mix reviews on the newer celicas. i personally would choose it over any other year celica (except a 1st gen coupe). plus it's a toyota so it'll be reliable if you dont beat the hell out of it. i hear the transmissions are weak. GL and update us

you have no idea what you are talking about. the 2ZZ is the best NA engine toyota ever built. no other, i repeat no other, 1.8L engine made 180HP except one, and that was the integra type R engine.

the 2ZZ is hands down an awesome engine. the only reason they fail is because they were not taken care of. yes they had issues with lift bolts in the 2000-02 years but other than that...nothing...

i just got one, 7k is high for those miles. i paid $5900 for one with 83k miles that needs tires and needed its MAF cleaned.

they're a fun car in and out of lift, off lift the engine is as strong as the 1ZZ-FE, makes 130hp and 120/lbft of torque. off the line torque is a little weak but around 2krpm its fine, stock suspension is tight but smooth riding, brakes are great on the GTS, mine came with leather and premium sound. the seats are very comfortable for long drives, and anyone 5'5" and under can actually sit in the back seats comfortably. passenger leg room is awesome as well upfront. you could seat a 6'6" man.

yes, the sunroof is plexi. blessing and curse, it won't shatter and fill your car with glass but it will get 'sunburnt' and need to be refinished. the factory headliner looks ugly as ****, but how often are you looking at it? the OE halogen projectors and driving lights light the road well at night, the highbeams are awesome. i got the auto with shift buttons for a daily driver, can't comment on the 6 speed. there was a good long-term test done by edmunds i think.

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...articleId=44024

overall they liked it and i would agree with them.

with a few bolt ons like intake and exhaust the 2ZZ really takes off and will put down some nice numbers with the manual trans, tune it with a powerfc and gains with bolt ons can be amazing, 180 to the wheels is not impossible, thats over 100hp/liter NA.

1.8 making 180. how about a 2.0 making 205hp na? give me an altezza with the 3sge in in anyday over a 7th gen. know lots of people who have had the 2zz and they took care of it and still broke on them. and the best na motor by toyota is hard to claim for something that was so problematic.

USDM 2zz + JDM TRD stroke kit ( 2.0 ) = 220 HP,

when comparing the 3sge black top with the 2ZZ remember that the 3sge was not realesed in US so is a JDM emissions, I'm sure if it was brought over to US the HP numbers would have been lower due to the emissions restrcitions.

the JDM version of this engine puts out a 141 kW (189 hp), the USDM lose 9hp due to emission restrictions.

so let's use JDM numbers to compare

189 HP / 1.8 L = 105 Hp per liter

205 HP / 2.0 = 102.5

on top of these, the 2zz can rev higher than the 3sge stock. which makes it a great engine for racing applications ( kind of like the old school 4age but better lol ) Don't get me wrong the Beams black top is a GREAT engine, but out of the 2 the 2zz is a far better engine. the design, is just amazing, for a long time toyota didin't come with something like this. and is a shame there are not more plataforms to suit this engine on toyota's line up ( Ex. Light weight RWD cars like AE86 )

MANY many many of the problems with the 2ZZ were caused by overzealous drivers revving them far too high on downshifts or beating on them brand new and setting up problems later on.

its a motorcycle engine in a car to be frank, and we all know how important it is when you get your new bike that it be broken in correctly for a long happy life. i'm sure kids were hitting lift as they pulled out of the sales lot with 2 miles on the engine, and then missing shifts on a 6 speed and putting it into the wrong gear and revving the engines to 10,000 rpm, obliterating the oil pump. how many engines going down the road can run 4000RPM all day long every day and not have a problem? and of those, how many can take extended sprints upto 7800RPM on a regular basis and hangout around there? not many. no wonder so many people broke theirs, they abused them!
