does it matter what headunit you have or could subs work with any headunit?

A sub will work with any head unit...my sub is hooked up to my stock headunit cause i dont feel the need...or should i say i dont have the money right now to buy a new one

94TRDCeli is right, but often, subs will sound much better when hooked up to a quality head unit.

Ok, what you really want is a lpf out-put, wich would be an audio out for just the subs, low pass freq., you can use just a standard audio out, wich would be not as good freq. range...not good for lower tones, then you can get a inline out-put for stock head units....would def sound better with a high volt output atermarket headunit
