I was thinking about shaving the radio antenna off of my Celica and replacing it with a hidden radio antenna. My antenna is broken and never goes down, which in my opinion looks ugly. Would it be a good idea to shave it, or should I replace it with a stock antenna that actually works, or a non-stock shorter antenna?

Also, if I do decide to shave it, how would I go about doing it? How can I remove the stock one, wire the new one, cover the hole, etc? Is there a tutorial anywhere?

you take the car to a body shop and have it shaved.

it requires fabrication of a plug, welding, body work, paint

That looks like a good idea. Any pics of a 6G with that installed? Other than the small pic on the tutorial?

Edit: Nevermind I found pics. It looks good. I was just wondering, if I do the mod, should I follow that tutorial, or should I do the one that requires the 7th gen parts? I'm not looking to spend a lot of money and this mod, since it's just the antenna.

I have the opposite problem, my power antenna is broken and never goes up. I did see the s2 mod in the how-to forums. Is there anyone else with this or a similar antenna mod? I want to know if you can get good reception, because if it doesn't get any reception I'd might as well just leave it down. IMO no antenna at all looks better than spending money on a stubby one that gives the same results.

i had the same problem but i took the whole antenna out and me and a friend extended the antenna out....then i cut it and attached the s2k antenna on it and held it on with some glue.....i get good reception with it

True, but it's good to have a radio anyways. Sometimes I'll forget my iPod at home and I don't have many CDs, so it's good to have a radio.

I disconnected my antenna once I put my headunit in...no use in having that thing go up when I don't bother with radio anyway.

But before I disconnected it, I had to take it to the highway and see if anything happens at 88. biggrin.gif Just kidding.

Well that is obviously the best looking solution. But if it is going to cost me a lot of money, I don't know if I want to do it.

This would be something to do if you got the car repainted...not just for the shaved antenna look.

And I'd also get the rear wiper, rear fluid sprayer, and front license plate holes shaved off. smile.gif
