Hello every1!

Just bought me a Celica today and what a buy it was, i set out to look at a silver 1998 2.0GT and when i took a look at it i was surprised to see allot of Japanese writing and a 3S-GE engine code. needless to say that with a few niggles i took her home for £1450 quid and what an amazing drive she is.

Jus wanted to say hi to every1 im busy trawling this site for all the information i can since im an avid car enthusiast i wanna know everything about my baby!

will shoot up some photos soon!

Thanks Pedro

uploading some pictures from in the dark now lol!

i need some help identifying exactly what ive got myself here. its definitely JDM (everything written in jap) and the 3s-ge engine code. it has electric folding mirrors. the engine looks like the normal GT engine with a 2000 Twin Cam sticker on the top of it. this isnt a VVTi engine is it? cuz the kick at 5500 rpms and the noise change makes me think it is lol.

Look at the firewall, your chassis code will be stamped on it.

That would indeed be a 3S-GE.

just a few more questions to bug you guys whilst im at it already biggrin.gif firstly are the hyper sport celica mats rare? read quite a few times that people are looking for em cuz mine has them. 2 in the front and 3 in the rear. and secondly im assuming that the 3sge engine shares serviceable parts (filters, plugs, leads etc) with the uk spec 2.0 gt?

thanks again

Hi Pedro

Tony here from Monaghan, just down the road from you.

Eveything in and on your car is interchangable with the uk gt, it's the same car more or less.

Check toyodiy.com (i think?) it will give you part no.s for all you'll ever need.

Best of luck with it!

No bother Pete, I’m originally from Donegal but living just a few miles from smithborogh in threemilehouse!!. You should also check out www.celicaclub.co.uk, plenty of info and a few more N.I members there.

Just checking out the pics of your car and I think you should double check that it is an import. The Japanese writing around the id plate is on all mk6 celicas as they were manufactured and built in Japan (unlike mk7’s).

Import celicas don’t have headlight washers on the front bumper or rectangle rear no. plate recesses. There is a few other tell tale signs but it would need closer inspection.

Best way to tell is from the VIN code. You said in an earlier post that it was ST202.
Just check for the letters that come after it. According to toyodiy;

Jap SS-II is ST202-BLMVF
UK GT is ST202R-BLMGFW

There is no real difference between them both (except from 10/98 Jap’s got Beams engine, projector lights etc). The UK car will be better protected against rust, have slightly better brakes and already be mapped for UK/Irish petrol. There is a slight decrease in power with the UK car but nothing major, just a few HP mostly due to lower octane petrol and a different map.

Also insurance for a UK car will be a fair bit cheaper. This can only be good!!??

Cheers

mine has the SS-2 vin number aye, st202-BLMVF all the writing on everything is in japanese, the sun visor. the tire pressures, all that crap too lol. The front bumper has been changed at some point in its life. all in all damn happy with it tho. didnt cost me allot and is so much fun, few things to sort out on her (she has a scuff on her side and the tyres are ****ty) but i just fell in love with this one in particular.
