It won't be, but yeah I can understand what he is saying when he says it is slowly heading that way.

Edit: by the way, this is a repost-ish tongue.gif.

Some of the article content may be repost info, but the article isn't.

Sadly enough I can see this happening - the hype has been built, and now let's beige it up like every other new Toyota.

There is still hope in Subaru, and frankly this might make the FT-86 a bit more... how you say... undesirable, in a good way. Take for instance the 6th generation Celica, which is (along with the 7th gen) considered to be "ugly" by those not in the cool people circle wink.gif. In America it is powered by a motor that gives only 140 horsepower, and it would of been better at the time to invest your money into an MR2 or something, making this car a bit of a rarity and giving those who own it almost a status among each other. Mean while, you could slap on a 260 horsepower motor, jack it up to 330 horses and have a lot of great fun in it.

Now am I saying that I am in favor of this trend where Toyota is heading... remains to be seen, however what I am saying is that Toyota just might make this thing really lame, with a lot of really cool stuff you could add to make it unique and go VROOM a lot, and no one will like it as much as enthusiasts.

Plus the exterior is going to stay the same (as far as I know) and the engine can always be screwed around in, along with the possibility that G-sport concept will come out sometime after the FT-86 show's promise in the market.

I find it ridiculous.

Turning a car that would have enthusiasts hoping to see a modern revival morphed into a regular everyday, 'old guys' car irritates me.

lol... actually I bought it for my sister. I did drive it for over a year, granted it was a boring car to drive but I actually think its a good looking car (its a 1st gen, 1999) and if I ever found a nice V6 5spd I think I would buy it for myself. And neither of us are old and boring, I'm 23 and my sister is 16. I do see the point they were trying to make though.

Well, if the car gets too boring I'll hope for the Subaru model. Or just buy a Genesis coupe.

I guess the Toyota board of directors must have gotten together about 10 years ago and decided to make their cars as boring as possible. I can't imagine driving any Toyota made from around 2000 on up (or at least any USDM Toyota).

so 3rd gen of this?

that sounds weird... however they did that already in 2000. They had new generation of Paseo and sold it as 7gen Celica wink.gif. It just confirms REAL Celica died in 1999 and never be reborn again.

Watch out, Honda Accord Coupe! Toyota is on the prowl, taking sales from all the 40-somethings who want to feel young again!

Seriously though. If the FT-86 does become the next-gen Solara, I wonder how long it will be before it gets hybrid technology and clogs up interstates worse than the Prius already does...
