Has anyone done an HID conversion to their Celica? If you have, which kit did you use and how does the beam pattern look?

Charlie had HIDs in his USDM low beams. If you can get a hold of him, he can probably help you.

Real HID is expensive, i've been looking into it for awhile and im not even that clear about the whole thing. What I want is the Projectors with the HID look of Bimmer's and Mercedes. I dont know if this is possible. I have H4 bulbs in my Rodeo and yeah they're bright but to me thats not HID.
A real kit willl cost you in excess of $300 -------------------- |

I'm kind of curious as to how the beam pattern looks myself, as I'm considering buying an HID kit once I get my car back. I do tons of night driving, lots of it in the rain, so being able to see better would really be nice.

From what I've heard and been reading, as of August 15, 2003, HID's are illegal (or have been illegal) and vendors have been asked to cease and desist the sales of HID's.
These are just some letters sent out by NHTSA http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/interp.../deetz.ztv.html http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/interp...es/kim.ztv.html And some other related links: http://hidforum.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=596 http://hidforum.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=613 http://www.detnews.com/2003/autosinsider/0.../b01-221695.htm http://www.cars.com/news/stories/072103_st...tory&aff=boston http://www.findarticles.com/cf_dls/m3306/1...1/article.jhtml http://www.seattlersx.com/board/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=793 Yeah, I know... this really sux. But hey, if you think you can get away with this like any other (illegal) mods, go for it. I know I would... depending on the modification. ![]() This post has been edited by kuya1284: Jan 2, 2004 - 1:32 PM |

After reading HID-forums, im not sure that I want to put in those rebased D2R capsules into my USDM reflectors.
These USDM reflectors are horrible. Fuzzy cutoff, barely any light to the sides...don't even want to imagine them with HIDs in them. What kind of headlights do Euro 6GC's come with? E-Codes? |

I put Hid's in my low beams and currently saving more money for the highs. They do let off a lot more light but the only problem with them is with the stock lenses. They tend to cut out some areas where it should be lit up. It looks almost like a V pattern you would have to see it really I can't explain it.
They mount in the brackets great tho. The fun part is trying to get them out I had a hard time with that. It really wasn't the easiest thing to do but when everything is put together you should be pleased. It looks great in the car but the anoying thing is that u get high beamed all the time. Sucks for everyone going the way you aren't I guess. Also, if you don't feel like spending around 600 for the lights I would go to a junk yard and look for newer cars like beemers and nissan and see if they left them in there it would be a lot cheaper if the price is too much for you. Anyway I don't know how it would come out but Ill get my friend who is in school for photograpy to take some pics of the light patten and see how they come out. If they come out good I'll post them for you guys! |

I wouldn't be happy if I knew my lights were dazzling oncoming traffic all the time. Think I'll stick with using my PIAA bulbs. I've got the plasma blue fitted in the low beams and at night they look very close to HID effect with an almost pure white glow perhaps very pale blue but definately not yellow

Its not like every car that passes me flashes me. Its just as if a car with HID's in it is passing you they are bright. Nothing even really compares to how much light the HID's put off. Everyone says that oh ya im going to put these bulbs in and they are so close to it. YA if you truly think that then go down a dark road in your car and someone else who has HID's and see who's are brighter.

I get really annoyed at people who put crappy HID conversions in their cars...

There was a company called Gourmet Garage that sold McCulloch HID kits. A lot of people bought those kits, but now it seems that their site is down. They may have gone out of business. They "claimed" that their bulbs matched the position of the stock lightbulb filament which would give the best beam pattern. The only problem was that they used proprietary HID bulbs.
www.mccullochhid.com This guy, however, does not seem to have been shut down yet... or so it seems. This guy has a lot of pictures, for those who are picky about the color. http://www.misterjung.com/ |

I have to admit my PIAA bulbs are not much brighter (if at all) than even standard bulbs, so they would compare bad with real HID.
They are only for effect rather than improved visibilty. -------------------- Facelift bumper-foglights-clear indicators, clear side repeaters, 16in O.Z alloys, stainless steel grill. I've browsed HID-forums and the conclusion is that mcculloch's HID kits are not that great because they rely on the car's stock wiring instead of a relay. I've decided to not go the HID way...

There's a place in my town that sells HID kits for basically any car. Want me to get a price?
