Is that the one with the single wire? If so it's the coolant temp sensor. on some models there is one with a hose that determines water presure/amount; i cant see from the pic.

temp sensor. that sensor reads what you see on your gauge cluster.

there is another coolant temp sensor in the radiator. that is the ECT sensor for the fans to turn on or off.

I have no idea what it is, but it certainly isnt that.

the thermo switch is in the bottom of the radiator, stick your hand down there and search for an electrical plug and unplug it, notice your fans will be constantly on.

its an electrical plug thats plugged into a bung shaped thing thats screwed in, thats the thermo switch and thats at the bottom of the radiator

when facing the front of the car it will be just to the right of the drain bung and outlet hose

Ok fair enough.

Well mine's here http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_1996_TOYO...3.html?hl=89428

SW Temperature in the bottom of the radiator.

On the back of my water outlet is the temperature sensor.

Wait.. what you showed is in the bottom of the radiator too, are you saying that plug ended up all the way up there? Bizarre.

the sensor on the back of the water outlet is for the temp gauge. the one that OP circled on the picture.

edit: can see your pix or the diagram in toyodiy
