So im doing my timing belt this weekend and oil pump oring. Any advice on keeping pulleys from moving once the belt is off. And if its not to much trouble could someone describe one more time how to set the timing and keep it set the entire time while the belts off. Thanks

just set the timing to TDC and make a note of where the cam is and crank pully. you can mark them with a sharpie or white out. there are marks to indicate TDC too on the block and timing cover. search for my thread on rebuilding the 7A-FE, i have a ton of pictures that will show what to do

What he said, although I'd recommend getting something sharp and making a small cosmetic scratch on the metal. I've had sharpy disappear on me, due to grease/dirt.

When you set the crank at tdc, should the cam shaft pulley be set at the its timing mark also? what i mean is if its in the correct timing setting one pully shoudl set the other?

Yes, put the crank at 0, then mark the cam shaft.

Keep in mind that the crank spins twice for every one rotation of the cam shaft, to get at TDC The crank should be 0, the hole on the camshaft pulley should be on the top. Wont be vertical due to the angle of the engine, but should be on the upper half.

Technically it doesnt need to be at TDC, however its more of a safety precaution incase one of your lines disappears, or something along those lines you know where everything should line up at.

Use a white paint pen (or white out, or something similar) and mark the crank, cams and the old belt. Then when you remove the old belt, transfer the marks you made to the new one to make sure your new belt is lined up exactly like the old one was. This will save you a lot of headaches.

As far as the crank goes there should be an alignment mark a "v" notch that needs to be set to zero and and the "U" notch on the cam. If your zero on the crank, but see no "u" notch on the cam, then you have to go one more revolution (on the crank). This is where that paint pen will come in handy. When I did mine, after I got everything lined up properly (before I removed the belt) I made quite a few marks, just to make sure that when I was assembling everything it all lined up fine. As far as the crank moving when I tightened everything down, it happened a bit when I was torquing the bolt (I dropped two bolts in the holes on the crank pulley, used a pry bar to hold it still and got my torque).
