We know the St205 is full time AWD, would having two different sets of tires harm the transmission in any way? It came originally with 215 50 16 but those tires are not available here so I took 205 50 16, so obviously they are slightly narrower and a little lower, but enough to realise, will the viscous center diff handle this? or will this cause a something to wear out??

as long as all 4 tires are the same size, you won't cause any problems other than a few miles / Kms off on your speedo gauge., but if you are trying to have different sizes of tires front and rear, then, no, that's not a good idea, I don't think any AWD car can handle that, the difference in speeds between the rear and front will cause the center differential to overheat and fail.

215 50 16 were not available, so I ended up taking 205 50 16, which from my measurements are 0.39" shorter than the 215 50' 16's.. Can 0.39" really cause damage? It also looks as if after the 215 50 16's begin to wear they should be the same height

Like Culpable04 said, If all four are the same size you will be fine.

the GT4 drivetrain is freakinnn tough!!

i wouldnt run different sizes though, im sure you'll get away with it for now, make sure the bigger ones are on the rear. you'll probably find the bigger tyres will scrub off down to size really quickly, but dont keep doing this. you will end up f**king the centre diff

Well currently the bigger ones are infront, I figured they would wear faster infront, I'm pretty much driving like a granny right now also, to avoid issues, there are no 215 50 16's in my country so I had no choice, and I haven't been rotating my tires so the front went and left the back with all the grip, they look untouched. The thought of buying 2 other tires just to match is painful right now. frown.gif

mmmhmmmmmmmmm.

so, the smaller tyres are on the rear???

lol that would be so much fun on a skidpan.

even better yet a pair of space saver donuts in the rear:D

its not safe on the road to have bigger tyres infront though, you can fishtail and 180

the damage isn't worth it IMO. If it were me I would find a cheap matching set of pretty much anything just so that all 4 are the same size...then worry about finding 4 of the size you really want

It is fine unless you have 2 completely different sizes opposite to each other, 2 205's at the front and 2 215's at the back will be fine, even if they were opposite its not enough to destroy anything, problems arise when you have a 14inch space saver and a 17inch on the other side.

GT4's come with 17" donuts, they are the same rolling diameter as the factory tyre size ...

Buy another pair of 205/50/16's, sell your 215's second hand

I agree with everyone that says it will probably damage the center diff in the long run, am going to try and trade the 215/50's for some used 205/50's, an save my self a bunch a money like Geico rolleyes.gif

whatever size you decided to choose is fine, whats important is you use it in all four corners. never use two different sizes on FWDs.
