not sure if its been done but since my brother owns a standard cab tacoma, we have been discussing a few motor swap options to make his truck a beast. just wanted to get some opinions/ thoughts on this. the goal is at least 300 reliable hp N/A or much more reliable with boost. not sure which yet.

never thought of the 3sgte with altezza trans but will consider, the 2JZ is our primary option so far. still need to finish the R&D for the performance and suspension part of the build since exterior, wheels, brakes, and interior have been decided upon.

Or skip the 2JZ and supercharge it...

Bit it's the v8 with a supra try trans
Don't quote me on that exactly but I've seen v8 swap supra so it could work
plus that would just sound baDa$$

i have no desire to supercharge a 4 cylinder in a truck. its getting at least a 6 cylinder of some kind possibly the 4.7 tundra V8.

I'm voting v8 lol you sure the motor might out weight the truck but people drop v8s in s10s an rangers all the time

we have discussed the V8, we area little biased to the 2jz because we like supras, and it doesnt require boost to make good power, and its already got decent torque considering the rear of a truck is weightless almost.

my brother-in-law has a tundra v8 motor in his 2001 tacoma. a lot of work has been done but it's a lot better than what it had...plus it moves quicker haha. any swap will need a lot of custom here and there. GL!

go to tacomaworld.com There is a bunch of threads there that might interest you. Mostly, however people are interested in higher torque numbers than higher hp numbers.

Honestly I dont know if dropping a bazillion hp into a tacoma is a good idea. All tacomas are very tail happy. I have to drive like a slow poke in mine especially after it rains and I only have 236hp v6 which is actually heavier since it has a 4x4 in it. My step father's tacoma is 2wd and man it feels worse than mine.

You can bolt on a supercharger and crank out 300hp, 350 if you change internals, run engine tune etc etc.

its gonna be built for the hp as well as torque, the tail happy action will be fixed with some other planned modifications. the goal is a streetable truck that can go on the drag strip and a road course or canyon. its a dare to be different project especially since it will retain all of its interior and comforts. and no one builds tacomas where we live its all S10's and Rangers. as well it isnt gonna be slammed its going to have a fully functional custom supsension.
