If you looked at his Linkedin site or his personal website..... he doesn't even list 6gc as one of his "accomplishments" or previous experience.....

We must be the black sheep

If desired...

I can purchase a simliar domain, or redirect off my current domain to a sub domain.

PHP forums aren't rocket science. I could also easiely transfer alot of the items from this site.

If I get enough interest, and it doesn't feel like we're stabbing anyone...I'll do it. I'm tired of the spam, and lack of care for the site.

This will be a real domain.

unless you feel like paying a company $ to rank a new site to get it to the top of the list on a Google search. There will be a decrease in new membership.

Its a minor inconvenience, these spammers. More for the Mods than for us. I dont see why we cant just wait an hour for someone to clean it up, and then everything is back to normal.

This. In my four short years here, I've seen Coomer show up once a year, usually around the end of the year. Every year, he "promises to do better. He's sticking around this time and he means it." Obviously, it never happens. However, he has made one promise that I believe he really meant. He is very aware that there is a wealth of information on this site and that if this site disappears, so will a lot of that information. Most of us will join other sites, but the information would probably be spread too thin. Coomer knows this and knows that people join every day to get this information. In the four years I've been here, I've known Coomer doesn't care about this site anymore, but I believe him when he said he's going to keep the lights on around here.

I've seen so many threads pop up about "6gc is going downhill fast, all the information will be lost soon, this site will be shut down forever." Granted, I'm all for backing up all the information we have, but why not take it to another large, well-known, established Celica forum? Celicatech or Celica.net, for instance. Neither one will be shutting down any time soon, and I'm sure members of both sites would love to have our information shared with them. Plus there is playr158's Resource Center, seen here.

Anyway, I digress. The point is that the spam is a nuisance but the mods are keeping it under control quite well. Coomer probably won't implement any changes to the site do all we can do is be grateful to the moderating team for doing their jobs.

This would be a better solution than making another 6gc.com or whatever. But something is unsettling about this site basically being left for dead. Being on this site for 6 years, I canot just leave it, regardless if all the information is moved to another site. It wont be the same.

I think the site is fine. The only thing that could get worse is if the spamming would become more frequent.

And I dont think the death of 6gc.net will be because of spammers, I think it will be from members moving on with their lives (as many of the early members have) and the gradual decrease of activity on the site.

It has. Which is what is annoying...It could be fixed easy.

I enjoy 6gc.net plenty, and appreciate all the work the mods do.

I do not want to create another site, I enjoy the simplicity of coming here and getting everything needed, or even a good conversation here and there.

For such a busy site, I just believe it shouldn't be left for dead. Old members are leaving, but plenty of new people are joining..picking up these shells quite cheap and looking for ways to fix them. How long will that last? Meh, I don't know, maybe another 5..possibly 10...die hards will go til its a rust pile on the ground. So we can speculate all day, but the simple fact stands the site is neglected when it comes to development and up keep.

Mods can only do so much.

On a side note...

I'm going to copy the whole site on the regular and place it on offline storage...if interest comes up, I'll host the database elsewhere.

Who said anything about leaving 6gc?
I'm hear till the site does for some reason die

But it is nice to know that if it does get to the point that the spambots get to out of control an the mods can handle it or the site does get shut down that we have a back up plan an a site that will have a lot of the stickied info already there
I don't wanna see the site go away there's to many good people here
An that's why I get on here everyday. Not just because there's a lot of info

Not as frequent as I have seen on other sites. This is really nothing.

New members are joining but it was never as active as it was around 2005-06. There is a finite amount of celica's, and only so many people will pick one up here and there and have intent to modify, so I agree, maybe 10 or so years.

I also take into consideration the fact that the Mod's will eventually get sick of cleaning the spam, move on with their lives, and slowly start to (for lack of a better word) neglect the site.

Fair enough.

I do worry the mods may get bored, but we'll just have to see how it goes.

For ones worried about losing the site any time soon.

Make a local copy (Spam and all!) with

WinHTTrack - Free website copier, works great.

How often does it copy/back up/other technical stuff that I don't understand?

I don't foresee 6gc.net being shut down or neglected any time soon. These cars and engines are getting cheaper every day. We'll probably never see any huge, high dollar builds due to their age and the newer technology/cars available now, but I think we will continue to see at least a few swaps and new members over the next few years. Especially considering Canada can now legally import GT4's.

I'm with the rest of you guys who refuse to leave this site. I have accounts on other forums I never use because I enjoy this site and the people here. I enjoy working on the Celica, continually modding it, driving it, going to meets, etc. because of this site. I had an IS 300 and hated that forum, and never put a single mod into car that I didn't have to. The same applies to my 350Z. This site, to me, is a lot more than just a wealth of information. I don't come here to learn the 3S-GTE inside and out. I come here for the people. So what if we get a few spam bots? They'll be taken care of quickly.

Its manually done, but you can schedule it to do it on its own via windows scheduler and a autohotkey script, but I can search for an automated one.

Or I can just link the data base to my site, and I'll backup 6gc weekly. Then you guys can just access the backup whenever regardless of the outcome of 6gc.net

True, the spam isn't TERRIBLE, that's only one concern. Say Rusty, and Manphibian etc sell their cars, move on from 6gc, we will have no active mods. If coiners bandwidth becomes to much, he could shut it down.
IPB board has had updates, to add authentication to sign up, YouTube videos, mobile versions etc.

We need a few more mods, there's a few trusting, active members here. And yeah, if Coomer comes around, he could Give the domain/server to someone on here to be hosted by their means, meaning a new admin.

Wish i could be made a moderator, there's a rare moment that i'm not on here..

According to this website: http://www.stopforumspam.com/ipcheck/89.76.250.9
mahetuwic is going to be the next spammer... give him a few hours tongue.gif He has the same IP as the other 2.

Just came across this:
www.6gc.net Expires: 2014-02-16 - 559 Days Left
