Understandable and I was a skeptical buyer, but I'm pretty pleased. Toyota is really going to have to step it up with the FT-86, because with the suggested prices and power options that are getting tossed around, I personally don't feel it's up to the competition out there. Especially when you can buy a v6 mustang running in the 13s. I'm rooting for Toyota, but we'll see.

goonter you are completely right about people's opinions. On the other hand car looks play a great part whether you want to buy the car or not. My folk's neighbors for example spent additional 1500 dollars purchasing a van because apparently the cheaper one (which was just as good if not better) had a design line thing going on from front of the van to the back. That decision was made by people who were definitely not into cars but sheds a great example of how people perceive cars.

Another important variable is of course availability err.. affordability. 0% apr is not offered on all cars and when it is... it is only for qualifying buyers with excellent credit. Another hard decision comes from real life practicality. Take me for example. I live 2 miles away from work. Already have a truck which I need and prospect of purchasing another car is... rather redundant AND I have truck payments for another 4 years or so as do many people.

Enticing people to buy new cars is very difficult and car manufacturers try their hardest whether it is by versatility or flashy attractive thingies on the car.

You want power but have no money. That's a problem.

Cheap. Reliable. Fast. Pick two.

That's totally what you think it was. Remember all that stuff I said about Scion earlier, how I hope this car never gets the Scion logo, blah blah blah? I might seriously eat my words.

this is reason for all to be happy, at least we are getting the car this time and not just Europe or Asia. next we need to find out if we are getting a real engine or just a hamster on a wheel. Scion badge or not I'm still interested, pending engine specs.

engine specs have been published for years. Non aspirated subaru engine in 185-205hp range. Subaru's version might get a 250hp version. Lexus's version will likely get a 280-330hp but like a typical lexus it will not be built with racing in mind.

Those engine specs aren't set in stone. I've seen plenty of specs showing the Scion getting a 2.0 turbo.

None of this is completely set in stone... but most likely there won't be a Toyota version, Scion version AND Subaru version. The Scion version has more distinct wheel arches than what we've seen, which I like.

I'd buy this car as a Scion, as it'll be cheaper than the Subaru version which I'd project being around the upper 20s, rather than lower-mid 20s for Scion version.

This is based on the condition that it's not too heavy for the amount of power it has. 230hp @ 2,000 lbs is fine... but if we're nearing 3000 lbs, I'd need 300hp.

i'm not liking the new mirrors, the tail lights and how they pop out, the wheels, no projectors, bulky rear diffuser, embedded scion logo.
but i AM liking the new fenders, the led's in the headlamps, no circular leds on the bumper and no spoiler.

still waiting on the non-rendered pics...
