Okay I seriously do not know how I lost. My car has more hp, more torque... the only thing his had was less weight. He had pretty much the same mods as me as well. This pisses me off because I've raced like 4 cars ever... and I've lost to all 4.
![]() The only thing I can think of is that my intake was not installed correctly because I had a friend install it and it was not exactly how the directions said. I guess I'll take a look tomorrow. I started pretty good off the line, then as soon as I got to 2nd, he flew past me! ![]() This post has been edited by 6gencelicasrule: Mar 20, 2004 - 3:18 AM |

descripe the race... wtf happend? Your A GT... iam thinking it is a weight issue... i find very light civics with 2/3 of my power a challange sometimes..... still beat them all because i have them grossly overpowered... maybe the VTEC has something to do with it... maybe you have tranny problems ... maybe its the driver not the car...

well put the stock intake back in.. cause if you have a shot ram you could be lossing power if its just sucking in more hot air then the stock air box did.

Well that is pretty much all that happened... I took off better than him but once we got to 2nd he really gained on me, and did so for the rest of the race. I will probably make sure the setup is correct for my intake, and if all else fails I'll put the old one back in. But normally aftermarket intakes will give you more hp won't they?... Thanks for the help guys ![]() |

I think its more the driver, My Buddy has a 2000ex with CAI and exhauast and hes a good driver and I took him by a car and a half. I think you gotta be more the right driver for the car. Im not saying your not a bad driver or anything but Like when I drove my buddys new MKIV I didnt find it fun at all, but When I drove a FD or my FB I just have a blast.

I've witnessed EX civics beat Integras, B18B's with same mods on both cars. Minor like i/h/e. It's geared reall good. Heck all Honda's and Acuras are. My ST feels like it drops rpm's big time when I go to second no matter how fast you shift it.

Again... like Kuya said, do you know the guy. Sounds like the guy might have turbo. Your over horsed engine took the line, but once the turbo lag was gone he could fly by. I see turbo's on EX's all the time. Hell you can get them on ebay for 1000 bucks with fmic's. Insane. Then again, if he has no turbo, its goes back to the driver. Watch InitialD vol 4. lol. Make an AE85 levin take a S13.
And as for me; My buddy has an 98' EX civic and we fun race all the time. I win cause I'm a better driver. Otherwise, STOCK, the cars are just about the same. |

dont worry about it, everyone meets a sleeper at least once.
i know i was the first sleeper for several people. my sleeper experience was with a 88 ford ranger with a 5.0 mustang engine in it. suprised me much like that EX suprised you, only he was making smoke all through first gear. -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

I dunno how you lost man, even when I was stock I was beating Civics with an intake and an exhuast. Damn auto tho, I remember losing one time because it shifted to third gear and held at 4k RPMs for no reason- I was winning by 2 car lengths until then too. (but we hadn't been going long enough to consider it a "win" yet)

Yes I know they guy... he's my brother and I know what he has done to the car. I doubt it could be the drivers because they were both automatics. It's got to be engine problems...

ok i CAN TELL YOU WHY YOU LOST. same issue for me, its our transmission. The ecu has us limited at 5800 RPM this is our huge huge huge downfall. civics and such rev to over 6000 so when we shift into sec they are still pulling and then when they do shift they come back at a higher RPM then we do this is why we lose

I think you should just get over it and forget it. It's not you, your car or your engine, or horsepower or anything like that. With such small numbers on both sides, it's all about power delivery... numbers don't mean all that much. I personally am not too surprised... although being auto hurts you more than him. Toyota auto trannies are geared really crappily. As for Civic EX's... they have SOHC Vtec motors. 127hp 110 something ft lbs of torque. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... its def the V-tec in hondas.. which alows then to pull for longer, the thing is we get our power so quick .. the ex doesnt get it until v-tec an can also hold out longer. which ment by the time your car is shifting to sencond he is still pulling in first.. I beat a ex in my st.. i have 5 speed an know how to drive, also the ex was auto.. but it all depends on every thing. he also had abody kit, which made his car heavier too..

no your right. Our cars were not ment to go fast. Especially autos with limited 4 gears-no redline in any case and no variable-valve timming. the SOHC Ex's dyno at like 125 to the whells after intake, header and exhaust, Thats a substantial increase than a GT at like 105hp at wheels with intake, exhaust, pulleys wires and plugs. They dont respond well without forced induction or a swap.**shrugs** but they look cool.Like Kwanza said your motors fine the car just lacks in critical areas. Thanks for all the info... But would a crappy auto tranny cause me to lose by almost 2 car lengths?? I mean that is a lot...

HELL YEAH!! Your gears are so much longer because thers only 4. I have a 97 GT (auto) with everydamn thing you can do to it minus boost and cams and Im still slow as hell.. **"Somethings wrong with your motor"** haha-NO. 5SFE are just well... non-prformance oriented.

Hmmm, my redline is 6400 rpm in my GT Auto and with th shift kit and new torque converter, I'd beat any manual GT with h/i/e...then again you don't ahve any drivetrain upgrades so you're going to be at a loss. Those VTECs man, after 4k rpm just kill. I've only lost to one non-forced-induction car in my Celi and that was an EX but before I had drivetrain upgrades. (I also don't race too many people in the Celica)
But like uppitycracker said, our cars aren't meant to go fast man. Get somethin neat like a blue subaru... ![]() -------------------- 95 Toyota Celica GT

What I don't get is why Toyota would make such a HOT car without any intention of it being performance oriented in any way... besides the torque I guess... |
