after reading around... i noticed that there are 6th gen celicas with AWS... the
st203- FWD - 3S-FE with AWS (European GT / JDM SS-I) , and the currens also had it... what would it take to make my celica ST or any USDM celica aws... iam just wondering what if... iam in no way thinking of doing this...yet. Mina |

AWS is unstable at high speeds...... very unsafe

I'd disagree toyotaspeed. The 3000Gt, Galant, Prelude and the 300ZX all had AWS. These cars are considered super cars from their respected makes. But to answer Mina.. i'd think it would be easier making USDM cars AWD, and we all know how easy that would be.

i think that's something that the ECU would control, and a 3sgte was never mated with an AWS celica.

I'm not sure how it worked in the AWS Celicas at all, but the way it works in most other cars with it is the faster you go, the less the rear wheels turn. I think after a certain point, the don't turn at all and only the fronts do. This allows the car to be much more stable.
If anyone has ever raced RC cars before I guess you could look at it like dual right steering on your radio, if that helps anyone. |

Well i know that when i drove the aws prelude, it didnt always use the back wheels. It only turns them when you go past a certain point in turning radius. So i wouldnt see how it would affect you when traveling fast. Cause if you tried to turn to such a degree at those speeds you would most likely spin out anyways. Ofcourse i could be wrong and the prelude i drove was used and the rear axle made a bumping noise so i may have beed defected. But i dont see how rear wheel stearing could realy be a disadvantage. Maybe in drifting. But prelude is front wheel so i dont see one.

Its really kinda pointless., I mean yeah i guess its cool if you have a car that comes with it.. but why bother spending all that money for it.. an time, an just think its more sheat that can an prolly will just break.

it is unstable because when you are travelling fast (and lets say you hit a "60mph" corner on a freewahy.....) the back wheels turn just a bit, and that causes all wheels to not be traveling the direction of the body.... think of it this way...... all 4 tires would be pointing the opposite direction of the direction the body is moving.... that's just asking to be flipped... and it happened
you're right... they HAD it.... they don't have it anymore.... the only cars that have them now are big trucks/suv's This post has been edited by toyotaspeed_90: Mar 20, 2004 - 12:38 PM |

Sorry but that a little misunderstood. When you corner on a highway at 60, your wheels Front and Back dont turn in any direction. Watch when your switching lanes on the highway. Your wheels dont turn like the do in the parking, they lean with very very low degrees. Just enought to make your car move slightly. If they turn like parking lots, no one would be alive today. The back wheels barely move at all. The AWS really doesn't take affect until 30mph, and then the move slightly like the front in the opposite direction to keep the back wheels from sliding on the ground. They, if anything, keep the car from fliping by allowing the rear to move freely without friction, otherwise your steering with the sidwall. But if a AWS vehicle was moving on the highway or anywhere past 30, you still wouldn't visually see them move. AWD AWS handles better than any vehicle on the road. But.... there are many more parts to break and go wrong. Thats why they are gone. Expect a come back like AWD. I have buddies with VR4 galants and 3000's.

AWS is the ****.... COoooooool technology
And no, its not easy to do... I believe.. if i have read correctly... the AWS celica is based off the GT4 platform and you would basically have to do the same things to convert your car to AWS that you would to convert your car to a AWD - minus the AWD stress on the frame... -------------------- -Mike

AWS on trucks is completely different than cars. AWS on trucks is for parking lots and easy maneuvering whereas car AWS is for handling and the Akina Downhill (another InitialD tie in - count 3

![]() Ok... AWS fails a lot in the Ludes... and it's pretty pointless to do. I'd prefer a track car without AWS anyday just because of its relative uselessness in high-speed cornering... -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

Kwanza, I'm not saying I want AWS. Hell, I really dont want AWD. I had it and its really no fun. Great for drags.... which means 4 times a summer. Otherwise, just added expense. My GT sliiiiiiiiiiides around the pavement (like the AE86 Treuno - InitialD tie in count 4). I'm the only FWD car in my city that replaces tires in the rear before the front. But again, I agree AWS costs to much to compensate its usefulness. I still wouldn't mind having a VR4 though.
ps. i really like the new anime series - dont flame me for it ![]() |

Heheh... did you happen to see the car I have listed in my sig? I'm not bashing you... but you do sound really silly considering you probably never even sat in one before. They're not that fast. That anime series (although entertaining) highly overrates the AE86... don't expect them to be able to beat skylines and lancers with an engine that pushes out at best 180 hp streetable n/a... -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... i knew i'd get a flame
![]() I just am a fan of the 86... I havent driven one yet though. I have the 85 and that was .... well not fun, i'm assuming the 86 isn't much better but it still would be nice to own the last rwd Corolla. I have a thing with sliding. Kwanza, i did notice the sig... thats why i said it... send me a picture or two turboinduction@yahoo.com But this is now way off topic and i'll end it- The End (curtains fall now) |

Hehe... it's coo. You don't have an 85. Those were never brought to the US. If you're refering to the SR5... it's still an 86. The 85's have different engines as I recall. If you wanna see pictures... Browse Through here. Anyways... sorry for taking this topic so far off... -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

AWS on the 300gt vr4 is powered by the turning of the rear differentiall
under 30mph, it does nothing after that it only moves a few degrees -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition
