A 3SGE should bolt in just the same as a 3SGTE or even the 5SFE. They all share the same S block.
The European and Japanese Celicas had a 3SGE. So it shouldn't be too hard, just a matter of finding one and getting it put in. |

And as long as Euro and JDM GT with 3SGE has 175 hp, then it maybe cost effective

many parts will be needed, the altezza is a RWD car
RWD engine into a fwd car isnt the easiest swap -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

The 3SGE was used in the Celica(FWD) AND the Altezza(RWD). It's the transmission and headers that would be different. |

engines are not what makes cars FWD RWD ADW 4x4... its the transmission and the way the engine is mounted...the 3sge will fit in a celica,, just like any other toyota in-line 4 will.. -------------------- |

Got an interesting question... could you take a 3s GTE and a 3sge Tranny and use them. personaly i like a RWD better then FWD.
I would even like AWD but i dont want to go to a 5th gen 3s gte to get AWD (thats what i was told) So would it work, is my question? This post has been edited by Mousetrashdiver: Apr 2, 2004 - 9:10 AM |

do you meant use the tranny on a 3sge on a 3sgte to make the car RWD? well yea it can be done... but your not going to get good performance from a transaxel ... you would be better off taking the AWD tranny and locking up the gears to make it RWD.. im not sure if toyota has a tranny for 4 rwd.. -------------------- |

There's more to consider then just looking at the engine alone. PS pump, AC, alternator, pulley tensioner, crank pulley, all accessory brackets, motor mounts, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, etc... will all most likely need to be sourced in order to do the swap correctly. You'll basically be using only the block and head... -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

the title of the post reads 3s-ge from a RS200 altezza i kno that 3sge engines came in celicas, but the 3sge from an rs200 altezza is in a rwd configuration. the transmission is not the only difference between a celica 3sge and a altezza 3sge. yes, the altezza exhaust manifold will have to be switched with one from a celica 3sge but its more than just that most likely the accessories are mounted in a way favorable for a longitudal mounting of the engine, which may not give room for a motor mount when you take the engine and swap it into a fwd application. http://www.billzilla.org/3sgonstand.jpg note how the alternator would be on the opposite side, possibily close to hitting the power steering rack, or maybe even in the way of the axel that would power the passenger side wheel http://www.billzilla.org/ae3sgecover.jpg and look at the intake manifold, it faces the oposite direction as a celica 3sge, and not only that, the TB is a lot lower, which, when a 3s block is in a celica, the engine leans back towards the firewall. this would make for an awkward intake setup, which could be solved by using a celica 3sge intake manifold, but that only makes the parts list longer so far from what i can tell, new accessories and their mounting brackets will be needed, along with celica 3sge engine mounts, a celica 3sge exhaust manifold and a celica 3sge intake manifold to make intake plumbing easier and better routed like i said, not the easiest swap, a lot of parts sourcing is required, perhaps even fabrication. its a lot like buying just a 3sgte and trying to swap it into an ST This post has been edited by 97sccelica: Apr 4, 2004 - 4:23 AM -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition
