to find out if its the tranny makin the noise, have someone in the car and put it into gear to make the noise. then take a screwdriver and hold the tip of it on the transmission and put your ear to the handle. if you can clearly hear the noise through the screwdriver then its the tranny.

P.S. be careful going under you car when its in gear.

so what if its old school, it works good and is free. i work on cars everyday and if im looking for a noise, thats how i do it. i think an automotive theascope is a waste of money.

How many miles on the tranny? It could be getting worn. At 120k I know mine can make noise. Where is the noise coming from? The trannsmission or the front of the car?
